The Structural Analysis of Gecko Talk, A Short Story by Sri Mulyani Goenawan

Toni Hartono English Teaching Staff of Accounting Department Politeknik Negeri Semarang Abstract: Structure to a work of literary such as a short story is crucial as it is a kind of thread which stitches together the plots and other elements of the story so that it enables the writer to present the story and the readers to catch the flow of narration and grasp the meaning the writer tries to deliver. This study attempts to analyse the structure of Gecko Talk, a short story published in the Jakarta Post of Sunday, August 22, 2004 in order to reveal the writers intention and morale of the story by looking through its plot, theme, characters, and setting. The result of the analisis is expected to give the readers assistance to reach better understanding by being aware of the elements of a short story.
