Forensic Psychologist: March 24, 2014 Column #1: -Serial Killers...nature v. nurture - Complex, because its both.

But no one knows how much of each part is most evident. -Differs from person to person. - Head injury could cause impulsive violence in one person but not effect another, another can be violent without any head injury - We dont operate the same way, everyone is an individual - Make us feel safer if we can isolate the problem - Supposed triad is based on very limited and non-randomized sample of interviews with incarcerated white male criminals in a few prisons. -Future violence is best predicted with the various types of psychopathy scales that have been devised for children. -Manipulation, deflect responsibility, damage property, steal, do poorly in activities that require sustained discipline and focus, and play cruel pranks, exercise need for control on others who are weaker. -More females then we think -No psychopath has been cured When you educate a psychopath, you get and educated psychopath. - Several who were freed and killed again -Profile is only and good as the input data and Column #2: I think interview is helpful by helping us better understand serial killers. It helps break some myths and just helps bring out things we need to understand. Like not every serial killer peed in their bed. This is not something that I had ever assumed all serial killers do, like the article states and that future violence can be predicted by a childs actions. If we look at most serial killers, most serial killers did things as children that had done things that predicted their future, like manipulation and wanting to have power over things weaker, like small animals. I defiantly agree that there is more female serial killers then we think. Most serial killers that the media shows up and serial killers that are in movies and TV shows are male. This goes along with the idea that profiling gives us tunnel vision. Since we are showed only this in media, then we assume that most serial killers are male. Column #3: I do agree that the media displays most serial killers to be only male even though there are many female serial killers. Also that the children wanting power over the smaller and weaker objects like the small animals may be a sign of something like that in the future. Stereotypes- always male Usually white Evil looking-because of how they are displayed in movies and what not. Taylor Slone Column #4: My stereotypes havent changed. Anyone can be a serial killer. It doesnt matter if they are male or female, but you can look at their childhood and more than likely be able to see actions that point to their actions as an adult. The medias stereotypes of serial killers is giving most people the wrong idea of what a serial killer is and giving people a false sense. Serial killers dont look different, they look like normal people and they dont have to be a loner, they can work in groups, they can have a lot of friends and a good family.

the person who develops it -Profiling should be the last resort since it can cause tunnel vision - First profile attributed to Jack the Ripper
