Session Learning Intention Success Criteria Activity Writing: Persuasive. Talk over the persuasive pieces from last week. Review structure. Go through steps: 1. Finally; 2. Summarise argument; 3. End with a bang. Shared writing of conclusion on board. Have students write out the conclusion in their writing books. Understand the structure of a conclusion in a persuasive writing piece. Be able to construct a conclusion for a persuasive writing piece. Bring students back to mat, talk about what we need in a persuasive piece again. Write the topic up on board. We are going to do a plan for this topic. What do we need to think about? Draw some pictures and write some words down on the board from student responses. State that planning will only take ten minutes. If there is time, have students do the planning in their writers notebooks or on a blank sheet of paper. Reflection Fruit Independent Reading + Reading Response. Bring students together on the mat and talk with them about characteristics again. What did we learn about characteristics? What are some of these? Show them the anchor chart about the difference between feelings and traits. During independent reading today, I want you to look for some of the character traits of the characters in your book. Students to use the hand out to write down any characteristics about one character in their Discussion answers, student work. Assessment Notes

Session Learning Intention Success Criteria Activity Assessment Notes Find a book with a definitive story line. This lesson may run short, start on the next one and have students make lists of their characters, setting etc.

Narrative stories have a Retell the story specific in your own structure: a words. beginning, middle and end.

Read aloud and Reading Response. Read a picture story book to the class. Talk about what happened in the beginning, middle and end. What was the problem/solution? Have students retell the story in only three sentences. SLIP. Talk about how they might do this (idea is for them to write the beginning, middle, end). Underneath write about what the problem was and how it was solved. Fruit Writing: narrative. Go through the structure of a narrative with students. Draw up columns on board, come up with a beginning, middle and end of a class monster story together. Describe task to students. Stress that this is a plan, so no erasing or colouring in. Students to use black pen. Have students write up a plan for their stories on the sheet provided. To stick in book. Writing to go on front and picture to go in the middle. Share plans with class afterward. Talk about why students think it is important to plan. Recess Art.

Show students the culture wheel and all the different things that can make up your culture. Students to break up into groups of three and talk with each other about what they saw in the videos and the culture wheel. Share answers with class.

Session Learning Intention Success Criteria Activity OWI. Observe, Wonder, Infer. Show students the picture story book Tuesday. Have a discussion about how we know what is happening in the story. Ask students is they liked it or not. Discuss what owi is (only briefly touch on infer, tell students only going to be focusing on o and w). Demonstrate table ruling up on board. As a class, complete the o and w about the book. Students then to do the same in their books using the pictures on their desks, working in pairs. Each pair to come up and share what they observed and wondered. Fruit Writing: Narrative. Talk with students about what we need to do to write up our drafts of our monster stories. Talk about how to use your plan and character information. Talk about how to start off your story, sentence starters. Students to begin writing their monster story in their writing books. Discuss with students about how they think that their story is going, are they using the plan? Recess Computers. Finish off writing about themselves on word. Draft printed out and edited with coloured pens. Mathletics half an hour. Ten minutes live maths for everyone whos finished. Then place value at their level. Assessment Notes

Session Learning Intention Success Criteria Activity Harmony Day Read Aloud. Talk with students about work expectations. Read Chrysanthemum again, talk with students about the book. Discuss differences and revisit what Harmony Day means. Show students the anchor chart on her characteristics. What makes her different? What makes her special? Students to complete character study and paste into books. Fruit Inquiry. Students to trace around their hands and turn them into fish. Talk with students about differences, and review what culture is. Watch the short videos on the Harmony Day website. Have everyone share their fish. Discuss how they are all different, and unique. Recess Maths Rotations (Julie to take). The characters in a story are vital to our understanding of it. Read your book and discuss the characters in them. Independent Reading then Library (12.45). Talk with students about their characters. Who are they? What do we know about them? Their traits. Are they like characters from other books? Students to do 15- 20 minutes reading. Pack up and prepare for library. Library at 12.45 Lunch You have to be quick at adding up numbers to win the game. Play Twister Maths and help your team to win!
