Story Elements Conflict/All elements covered Lesson 3 INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES/ STUDENT OUTCOMES 1. Students will be able to define plot, theme, character, setting, and conflict 2. Students will write short stories identifying each story element 3. Incorporate technology with instructional portion of the lesson 4. Students will complete activity based on story elements WV CSOS 1. RLA.O.5.1.09 determine the elements of literature (e.g., characterization, conflict, plot) to construct meaning and recognize authors/readers purpose. 2. RLA.O.5.1.15 increase the amount of independent reading to comprehend, analyze and evaluate literary text and informational text. 3. RLA.O.5.2.07 draft analogies, illustrations, examples, or anecdotes to respond to an oral, visual, or written prompt. NATIONAL STANDARDS NCTE/IRA 8. Students use a variety of technological and information resources (e.g., libraries, databases, computer networks, video) to gather and synthesize information and to create and communicate knowledge. MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK Overall Time- 30 mins Time Frame- 5 mins flipped lesson video 5 mins explaining activity 15 mins student activity 5 mins picking up/closure STRATEGIES Teacher led discussion, student led discussion, independent practice, DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION/ ADAPTATIONS/ INTERVENTIONS One student with an IEP. She sits in the front of the classroom and does better with partner work. Two students with difficulty sit in the front, middle of the classroom. PROCEDURES: Introduction/ Lesson Set Video introduction/instruction Explain story elements activity

PROCEDURES: Body & Transitions Students use the story they completed in the previous lesson to complete activity Students do in class activity Students ask questions PROCEDURES: Closure Students put away materials Students ask follow up questions ASSESSMENT: Diagnostic The diagnostic assessment will be answering the students questions at the beginning of the lesson. ASSESSMENT: Formative The formative assessment is the students completing an in class activity about story elements. The students will use the story they wrote during the previous lesson. ASSESSMENT: Summative The summative assessment will be students asking questions at the end of the lesson. MATERIALS Computer SmartBoard Paper Pencil Worksheet Construction Paper Markers EXTENDED ACTIVITIES If Student Finishes Early- the student will draw pictures of events happening in the story If Lesson Finishes Early- the students will draw pictures of events happening in the story. If Technology Fails- I will introduce the lesson face-to-face, rather than flipped lesson. POST-TEACHING Reflections Data Based Decision Making
