Sadiq1 Hira Sadiq Green Algebra 2 21 April 2014 The Importance of Statistics Imagine if in 980 B.

C, the idea of statistics had been introduced. The world would've been a completely different place. Very obviously, the people today would've been advanced to such a point that it would blow your mind. Mind fucking blown. I mean literally because your mind couldn't have been on the same mental field than those with super-human capabilities (as ours would be if stats was introduced earlier on). I'm sure that Egyptians over a thousand years ago never even thought to take statistics on the amount of people who got their stallions stolen per month instead they would use physicals means to insure repentance against thieves. Okay, but back to the point: why statistics are important in our day and age. Think about if you were going on a trip and you can't even think of what type of clothes to pack because you have no idea if it's going to be hot or cold, if it's going to be 75 there or -2. How distraught would you be? (I figured this is a more relevant example for us modernized folk.) As stated on the page titled "Why is stats important?", I included 10 reasons as to why it is dire, and convenient in our advanced time period. Many worry about the weather and what to dress for, and many are curious about their genetics and lineage. Millions are concerned about the disease outbreak in Africa and many are interested in the political campaigns to elect the next president of the United States of America. Statistics are used everyday for matters that important to separate people in order to relay important information through

Sadiq2 evidence and arithmetics. Understanding the world around is what mainly differentiates the world we live in today as opposed to the world that was inhabited by our species hundreds of years ago. According to mathworksheetscenter.com, Statistics are sets of mathematical equations that are used to analyze what is happening in the world around us. You've heard that today we live in the Information Age where we understand a great deal about the world around us. Much of this information was determined mathematically by using statistics. When used correctly, statistics tell us any trends in what happened in the past and can be useful in predicting what may happen in the future." We understand, through mathematical calculations and especially by using statistics; the population in each country, city or town. The exact chance if theres going to be rain today or not. According to Jim Frost, First, lets stipulate that an unscrupulous person can intentionally manipulate the results to favor unwarranted conclusions. Data can be easily manipulated to a certain persons favor and in this case, it is easy to prove unreliable statistics. This can be used to gain power over others because certain data, for example the vote count for a presidential election, can be easily altered with, as most political campaigns usually are-- sneaky bastards. As agreed with Frost, statistics are not to be blamed for this unreliable data sourcemainly the statistician. Since the field of statistics is the science of learning from data, statisticians are endowed with the burdened job of having to address the question at hand, collect reliable data, study the data appropriately, and to draw trustworthy conclusions. They must meet these requirements in order to

Sadiq3 provide the most accurate statistics. Many, like Mark Twain, believe that statistics is also another example of a lie told by society. As he said, There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics. This is because the English language and the mathematical linguistics come to a stand off, very much like the old cowboys from the west with the cheesy music playing in the background. But then when they start using the word "average" to talk about statistics, you get weird results, like the fact that 67 percent of people in the USA make less than the "average" income. So how the fuck can "average" mean "most people" when most people aren't average? Agreeing with Nathaniel Cope and James Spedding on this topic, I believe that the stand off does not come from statistics lying to you, I believe its the confusion of direct translationas often happens when translating languages. Statistics are often also used as a way to gain power, as I stated before about the rigged presidencies. Statistics can be used as a major guilt factorand in that case, many donations are made. For example when those heart-wrenching commercials come on T.V with Jennifer Aniston holding a starving child while a sad piano and violin are heard in the background with the famous icon saying 870 million people in the world are suffering from malnourishment. Please donate $2.00 to support our fund. This information is true and absolutely mortifying, but the way presented through commercialized tactics forces the audience to feel bad and donate their money to this cause. Statistics are used to gain power in an industry to see whose products sell more, in the population for money to donate, in show business to see what producer or artist is No. 1 according to fans all around the world.
