TWS 9 A. Classroom Management How will I create a positive, safe learning community?

Describe specific activities that will be used to develop a sense of community. In order to create a positive, safe learning community, keeping an ongoing routine is key. Students need structure in the classroom. Having a routine every day that the students and I will following will delude all confusion in the class. Each day students will come in and unpack. They will make their lunch choice. Eat breakfast and start their morning work. Another classroom routine would include fire drills or tornado drills. Practicing these routines will help our classroom remain safe and calm in the chance that those drills were real. My students will know the correct procedures and follow them safely. An activity we will do in the mornings is morning meetings as a class. All students will sit on the carpet and greet one another. They will also have the chance to share one thing of their choice to the class. This is one activity that we will do as a class each and every day. This activity will give students an opportunity to talk with their classmates and join in a sense of community. We will do this activity each day to build our classroom community. Students will also have jobs and responsibilities in the classroom. Students will have to show time management throughout the day in order to get their jobs done. Some students may need the help of others in order to complete their classroom job. In my classroom students will show respect to their classmates and help them each other out if they see that another student is having difficulty completing their job. My Discipline Plan Will Include . . . 1. My first classroom rule is: Respect others. I expect all students to respect their classmates feelings, thoughts, and belongings. I also expect students to respect the teacher. Students are to show respect by raising their hand and not speaking out of turn. 2. My second classroom rule is: Be responsible. I expect all students to have their materials each and every day for class. I also expect my students to keep up with any and all materials or papers that I give to the students. With this rule I also expect students to show responsible behavior. If a student misbehaves I expect for that student to take responsibility for their actions. 3. My third rule is: Do your best. I expect each student to come in the classroom with a positive and ready to work attitude. I want every student to get the most out of each day. I expect students to try their hardest, even if it seems to be a task they feel they cannot complete. As long as every student is trying

their best there will not be a task they cannot complete.

What will be the consequences when a rule is broken?

How will I communicate the consequence without stopping the lesson?

What types of rewards will I provide if the rules are followed?

If a rule is broken students will first be given a verbal or nonverbal warning. I will verbally tell the student this is your warning. If the student does not know what rule they have broken I will be sure to tell the student that, for example, they were talking out of turn. A nonverbal warning will consist of a tap on the shoulder or a stern look at the student. If the breaking of the rule happens again I will take minutes off of the student talking at lunch. Taking this time away will allow the student to think about what they did wrong in the classroom. The third offense will be a note sent home to the parents. The note will consist of the rule that was broken, the previous warnings, and will ask for the parent signature. If the student continues to break the rule, the student will be sent to the principals office. If the student makes it up to this point the note will also be signed by the principal and sent home to the parents. Each consequence will also correlate with a color on a chart. Student will have clips to move after each consequence. All students will start on green, yellow is the first offense, blue is the second offense, purple is the third offense, and red is the fourth offense. A nonverbal warning will be given by tapping the student on the shoulder. This will let the student know that they are making a wrong choice. If I see a student talking during a lesson I will begin to walk around the room and tap the student. I will also keep tab of behavior using my iPad. There is an app for behavior called class dojo. Each students name is in the app, if a student is misbehaving I will sampling tabulate it using the app. At the end of the month if students havent had a visit to the principals office/ been on red, as a grade level, there will be party for those students to attend. Students will gain positive points each day using the class dojo app, one

What type of visual reminder of the discipline plan will I post in the classroom?

How will I communicate the discipline plan to the parents?

random day out of the week, I will allow everyone who gained positive points, or stayed on green, for that day to sit at another table during lunch to eat. This will encourage students to try their best and follow the rules each day. As a visual reminder in the classroom there will clips correlated with colors. The colors will be large laminated circles, hung by a ribbon beside the door in the classroom. The clips are a visual, daily, reminder of the student behavior throughout the day. The classroom rules and consequences will also be posted very large beside the clips. They will be clear and simple for the students to understand. At the beginning of the school year I will send home 2 copies of a letter to all parents explaining what my discipline plan is. I will ask that the parents keep one copy of the discipline plan and sign the other copy and return back to school for my records. This is a very simple way for all parents to see my classroom rules and consequences for their child. If a student does not return the signed copy of the discipline plan, I will send home another copy, and call the parent to ask for their signature if needed.

B. Non-Instructional Routines and Procedures My classroom will run by practicing a routine. At the beginning of the day students will unpack, make their lunch choice, eat breakfast and begin their daily work. All homework is to be turnedin in the homework bin on the teachers desk. I will take attendance after our morning meeting. Morning meetings will begin about 5 minutes after the school day has begun. There will be a pencil sharpener in the classroom. Students are to sharpen their pencils before the morning meetings. The only other time to sharpen pencils is after lunch. During lunch students will remain quiet for the first 10 minutes. This gives a chance for all students and myself to eat. When walking down the hallway, students will keep on the right side. They will remain in a straight,

single file line all the way to our destination. Students are not to talk at all in the hallways and should keep their hands to their self. As stated above, students will have jobs in the classroom to help the day run smoothly, these may consist of line leader, someone who cleans the white board, someone who turns the smart board on and off, and turns the lights on and off. No matter if there is a bathroom in or outside of the classroom; students will be able to go whenever needed. There will be a pass to take if it is outside the classroom. We will practice emergency drills throughout the year. I will keep an attendance sheet in a bag close to the door. Once outside I will check the sheet to ensure that all my students are with me and notify school administration.
