Benchmark: Personal Timeline Due: Friday, April 4, 2014

I. Overview:
The small decisions we make everyday can influence our overall identity. Collectively, the decisions we make as individuals create the fabric of our present day culture and what later becomes our history. Homer Plessy, for instance, made the decision to sit in the Whites Only car of the train. Out of context, sitting in a train car seems like a small and inconsequential act. Within context; however, Plessy and the organization he was working made a calculated decision to make a simple choice revolutionary. Within this in mind, I want you to consider what events or choices you have made that have affected your identity. It can be as monumental as deciding to come to this school or it can be as minute as reading a certain book or playing a certain video game. All decisions merge to shape your experiences, perspective and potential.

II. Requirements:
Personal Timeline Pick five events from your personal history that impacted your life. one national event that had an impact in your life. one global event that impacted your life. Explain how each event impacted your life in a brief one to two sentences description. This description can be on your timeline or on a separate sheet of paper. Interview a person that is older than you. Ask them for three events from their personal history that impacted their life one national event that impacted their life one global event that impacted their life Record their responses on a separate sheet [typed or written] that you will hand in with your project.

III. Freedom of Expression:

An event can essentially be anything. It can be a book you read, a sports team you joined, a friend you made.

 Your timeline does not have to be a line. You can draw or write the trajectory of events in whatsoever way you wish using a medium of your choice. It can be a video. It can be a slideshow. It can be a creative image (perhaps you draw your timeline as a tree.) In terms of time your event can be an ongoing event. For instance, if one of your events is your first day of ballet class and you are still training in ballet, you can indicate that this event is ongoing on your timeline. It is okay if you dont remember a specific date. You can indicate what age you were or what grade you were in - whichever measure of time is most accessible to you.
