Daily Lesson Plan The Soviet Union Day: (Day 12) Objectives: TSW: Critique the practice of Communism

through an activity to begin class. (DOK 3/4) TSW: Interpret the significance of Communism in the Soviet Union during lecture. (DOK 2) TSW: Categorize Innovations, Political / Economic changes and the different forms of Totalitarianism with a graphic organizer worksheet. Opening (Set): Good morning, this past week we have discussed and interpreted the postwar world following WWI. We have seen how it helped economies boom and drove economies to bust. Today we will wrap up this chapter, and the end of my unit with the topic of the Soviet Union. We will spend a lot of our focus on Vladimir Lenin and Communism. Lets get started. Survey Questions: What if the government owned everything you have? Homes, Food supply, Vehicles? What if they told you that you have too many? What would that be like? Why might that be a problem?

Learning Tasks (Procedures): A. The students will come in and get started on their bell work. a. The students will B. Following the bell work, the teacher will open the lesson with an activity to illustrate communism. a. Each student will be presented a number of Hersheys kisses. b. The teacher will act as the government, and give the students as many kisses as they need. (giving some more than others) c. The class will then compete to in a game of rock, paper, scissors to keep or lose their kisses. d. When a student runs out of kisses, they are to sit down and watch the remainder of the class continue to play. e. Complaints like this isnt fair will be used as teaching moments to illustrate communism C. Following the game the students will get out their outlines and prepare for the final lecture. a. The teacher will discuss the Soviet Unions rise to communism and the effects it had on the country. b. Following the lesson, the teacher will informally assess the students on the lesson. D. Following the lecture, the students will take a pop quiz on the lesson. a. This will formally assess how well the students listened to the lesson and took notes. E. When the students turn in their quiz they will complete a graphic organizer worksheet. a. The students will categorize Innovations, Political / Economic changes and the different forms of Totalitarianism. b. This will be a good wrap up of the entire chapter prior to review day. c. The students will work on this until class is over. d. It will be turned in on the teachers desk. Closure: The bell is about to ring so lets recap what we went over today. We discussed the cause and effect of communism in the Soviet Union. We discussed key figures and events that influenced the country to go that direction politically. You all performed an activity based on communism. You saw first-hand with that activity how flawed communism is. You also took a quiz pertaining to this lesson. Tomorrow we will review for our Chapter 18 test. If you have any questions pertaining to any lesson or if you missed a day tomorrow is the time to ask. Thank you for your attention. Have a great day.
