1. What was the area of focus today during the lesson? What activities related to the area of focus did the teacher include in the lesson today? They were continuing today with opinion writing in their writing workshop. To support that, tie in with Dr. Suess week and introduce the green eggs and ham breakfast the next morning, Ms. Hoag read aloud Green Eggs and Ham. It was a review mainly. 2. What went well with the instruction? What did students learn? There wasnt much new instruction in the lesson today. She did discuss not asserting that you dont like something until you have tried it and how pictures help show how characters feel. These had been discussed previously. 3. Explain a growth moment for yourself where you realized, learned, or confirmed something from today dealing with student achievement in the area of reading. (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, before/during/after reading It was reasserted for me today that teaching reading may require a lot of repetition to make it stick. This is especially true when the students are first learning. 4. Describe a moment when a student grasped an idea/concept-that got it! kind of moment. How was the teacher able to facilitate this experience? Explain the situation. It was hard to see such a moment this week. The students were very interested when Ms. Hoag asked them how they knew Sam really did like the green eggs and ham and then when they didnt answer explained that on the page before he tries them he is frowning and on the page after he tries them he is smiling. The students thought this was funny but didnt really seem to have an ah-ha moment. They then went into writing time.
