Race
"Race" defined characterization on socially important physical characteristics (skin color, hair type, eye shape, nose and lips (in order of importance)) Problems with "race Focuses on cosmetic features: Phenotype vs Genotype Categories are metaphorical, arbitrary and inconsistent (especially regarding white and black) There is more variation within some races as well as between some races The myth of race encourages notion of which is "best."

Ethnicity
"Ethnicity" defined not the same as race!! (Japanese is an ethnicity while Asian is race) Geographic, linguistic, and cultural origins Ethnicity is a more concrete characteristic than is race, and everyone has at least one ethnic identity even if they avoid it. Examples of ethnicity in Canada is being English, French, and why Canadian is not an ethnicity is because its a nationality and doesnt have a specific language Race, ethnicity, and Canada's "visible minorities Aboriginal status Visible minority is non-white in color #1 is Chinatown, #2 is Coral Springs, #3 is U of C
