When securing any elevator to the bails, ensure they are secured with bolts, double nut (lock) and stainless steel pins. Nuts to be facing operator. Ensure all monkey-board finger latches are fitted with stainless steel safety wires and checked on a daily basis. When working at height over gratings, cover the gratings below to prevent any dropped item falling through. Ensure all derrick grating clips are in place and have ty-wraps fitted to provide secondary securing. No tools to be carried in coverall pockets when ascending / descending derrick. Pocket tapes etc. to be placed in zipped pockets. When installing drilling jar clamp, ensure the unit is securely fastened. Review requirement for secondary securing with respect to adverse weather and location of clamp in the derrick. Routinely check that all locking/seizing wire on the topdrive bolts is intact. Use the Daily Derrick Inspection Sheet and Dropped Objects Folder. Always use back-up safety sling when using work basket. Ensure Subsea Engineer and Toolpusher are involved in Derrick Inspection.

Consider use of rope around monkey-board to catch dropped stand. After jarring operations check DDM for loose items. All shackles will be moused. Stainless steel split pins to be used in preference to mild steel on fasteners within the derrick. Safety wires or strops to be used as secondary means of restraining all fittings, lights, snatch blocks, etc. within the derrick. Nylock nuts to be replaced if removed or adjusted. All hand tools to be fitted with a lanyard with a wrist strap or be long enough to be tied off to the structure. Inspect wires on a daily basis. Chin straps on hard hats must be used when working within the derrick. Webbing or Canvas strops not to be used for routine operations within the derrick. Toolbox talks to highlight need for continuous observation for defects or potential dropped objects within the derrick and substructure. Daily check on drill-line spooler, i.e. slings, shackles and split pins. Remove all redundant equipment (eg cabling and associated aerial equipment). Safety slings on all items bolted to derrick. Derrick log-book to be kept for all items and personnel working up derrick. Remove tar build-up from crown on a regular basis. Use certified beam clamps instead of wrapping slings around beams. Double nuts on bolts used to lock all items secured in derrick. Tool belts and safety lanyards to be used when working aloft. Check racking arms before and after trips.

Weld down all grating at monkey-board and crown. Chains and platform gates to be closed after passage. All tubulars and racking arms to be secured with air-hoists in derrick during bad weather. All third parties to have certified lifting gear. Secure wireline sheave in derrick with safety sling. When picking up casing with pick-up elevators, ensure latch is on top so that the load is not acting directly upon it. Safety slings to be certified and changed out on a regular basis. Block hang-off slings to be checked on a regular basis. Block hang-off pad-eyes on travelling block and crown, and light brackets to be regularly checked. Ensure crown-o-matic functioned every tour (check setting at start of tour). Checks on inertia reels at monkey board and stabbing board before use. Checks before use of safety harnesses at monkey board and stabbing board. Check before each use of belly-buster at monkey board. Daily check of mezzanine deck for dropped objects. Every time DDM is serviced, check all nuts, bolts, shackles, safety pins, etc. Check windwalls for loose bolts before and after high winds. Ensure nubbins are made up to at least 75% of make-up torque value. Anchor points for handling equipment should all be certified. Check clamps and chains on compressor and mud hoses on a daily basis. Electric brake should have an audible alarm (tested frequently).
