Daily Lesson Plan Home Front Day: (Day 2) Objectives: TSW: Create pro WWI propaganda poster.

(DOK 4) TSW: Use the PowerPoint slides and lecture to fill out their outlines. (DOK 1) TSW: Identify current propaganda through social media. (DOK 1) TSW: Make observations on how the mobilization of the war brought about social changes (DOK 2) TSW: Recall information from the last two lessons for a quiz Section 1 / Section 2. Materials: Large drawing paper (Printing Paper) Section 1 / Section 2 Quiz Pencil, paper, desks, textbooks, laptop, PowerPoint, crayons, color pencils, guided reading, cell phones Opening (Set): Good morning everyone, yesterday we discussed the long term and short term causes to WWI. We also focused on how the United States entered the war. Who remembers what happened that brought us into the war? Well, now that we are in the war there is a certain protocol that we must follow in order to be successful militarily. Today, we are going to focus on the home front and look at how the United States mobilized the economy in order to support the Allies.

Survey Questions: Who in here watches the Olympics? How many of you have witnessed or felt the overwhelming backing of a team or country? What is that like? What do you think it feels like if you are that team or country? Learning Tasks (Procedures): A. The students will come in and get started on bell work. a. The students will create their own propaganda poster to sell the war in the U.S. b. The students will have 15 minutes to complete the exercise. B. When the students are finished they are to turn it in on the teachers desk for a grade. C. After bell work, the teacher will allow the students to pull out their cell phones and get on twitter or Facebook. a. The teacher will walk around the classroom informally assessing students about what kind of propaganda they find. D. After all of the students have identified propaganda through social media the teacher will start the lecture. a. The teacher will reinforce Day 1s lesson as well as help the students understand how the entire economy was mobilized to aid the war effort. . E. The teacher will discuss, via PowerPoint, the Who, What, When, Where, and How WWI effected the home front. a. Women in the War b. Selling the War c. Propaganda d. War organizations e. Recap of the attack on civil liberties f. Social Changes F. Following the lecture, the students will take a short quiz on the information they have learned so far: Section1 and Section 2. a. When the students finish their quiz, they are to turn it in on the teachers desk. G. When finished the students should start working on sections 3 and 4 of their guided reading exercise.

Closure: Alright class the bell is about to ring so lets recap what we learned today. Today, we focused on the war at home. We took a look at the mobilization effort, mass production, women in the war, and the social changes that occurred at this time. We also watched a video to help us visually understand what was going on in the United States at this time. Tomorrow we will discuss the war abroad (in Europe) and how the allies were able to defeat the Germans. Thank you for your attention. Have a great day.
