How I can help

Continue to have Kevin use these strategies in my classroom.

Empowering Kevin
Involvement and Choice is the understanding that negative behaviors and lack of participation could have consequences, and that positive behaviors and being involved in the class activities can lead to more successes and rewards. Reason
Student does not have any behavior problems in the after school program.

How I can help

Give the student choices throughout the instructional hour each day
Informal Web/Graphic Organizer Type Final Copy/ Write Final Copy

Empowering Kevin
Self Knowledge is understanding how you learn and what your strengths and challenges are
Reason
The student is able to use his resources and strategies to build his self knowledge

How I can help

Continue to help Kevin by giving him the necessary tools he can use in order to succeed. Try to fit the classroom environment to the learners environmental preferences

Empowering Kevin
Belief in Self is related to self-confidence. It is the belief that you can accomplish things on your own
Reason
he lacks the confidence to complete tasks independently he is looking for reassurance that he is doing the right thing and cannot move forward without this assurance Sometime Kevin can get a negative attitude which is directly related to his frustration

How I can help

keep feedback positive and phrase corrections in a positive manner Scaffold lessons so that they have to do with his interests (football)

Empowering Kevin
Self Advocacy- is the ability to stand up for yourself and ask for what you need in an appropriate way
Reason
At first, the student would always ask for help before even trying his homework Student is gaining independence and only asks for help when he needs it

How I can help

Use green/yellow/red flip cards so students can nonverbally tell me when they need help Create a Self Advocacy Framework for Kevin so that he may revise when necessary and give it to teachers in the future

Goals
Reading: Kevin will increase his reading fluency to improve his ability to read text at his instructional level 80% of the time over 5 weeks. Math: Given a story problem, Kevin will increase his ability to apply comprehension strategies in math 80% of the time over 10 weeks.

Goals (cont.)
Social/Emotional/Behavioral: Kevin will improve his ability to display self confidence and a positive attitude across all academic settings which includes demonstrating: independence in starting an assigned task and age appropriate social, coping, and problem solving skills in 4 out of 10 trials over 10 weeks. Writing: Given a writing assignment, Kevin will write a paragraph which includes a topic sentence, reasons, explanations, and a concluding sentence in 8 out of 10 trials over 5 weeks.

Reading Strategy/Intervention
Orton-Gillingham Strategies are effective in reaching almost every student because they engage students in multisensory and interactive reading instruction
This will increase Kevins fluency Way this relates to Kevins strengths:
Multisensory

Math Strategy/Intervention
UPS Check Strategy Understand the problem. Plan how to solve the problem. Solve the problem. Check your answer.

Math Strategy/Intervention (cont.)

When I teach this strategy to Kevin, I would have him circle the important information, and to underline the question. This relates to his strengths because he likes to draw and he enjoys math. I could also use a visual of key words for Kevin because he is Picture Smart. This would help him understand the problem.

Social/Emotional/Behavioral Strategy/Intervention
Before big assignments, I use brain breaks that allow music. No matter what song it is, Kevin often does the Gangnam Style dance. After the song is over, Kevin is focused and ready to start working on his assignment independently.

This relates to Kevins strengths because he is both body smart and music smart.

Writing Strategy/Intervention
Step up to Writing!
Introduce each color to the whole class. Have students practice each of the colors Slowly put the paragraph process together Throughout the process the students can use colored highlighters to highlight the different color sentences
Way it relates to Kevins strengths
Kevin loves to color
