BILL FOR THE FIRST NATIONS CONTROL OF THEIR EDUCATION SYSTEMS WHEREAS on February 7, 2014 the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and the federal government announced that they had reached an agreement regarding the preparation and introduction into Parliament of a Bill for the First Nations control of their education systems; WHEREAS neither the AFN nor the federal government consulted with or made aware the First Nation members of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL) of the said agreement prior to its announcement on February 7, 2014; WHEREAS neither the AFN nor the federal government consulted or engaged with the First Nation members of the AFNQL regarding the preparation or introduction of the Bill subsequent to the February 7, 2014 announcement; WHEREAS the AFN cannot conclude any agreement regarding First Nations education on behalf of the First Nation members of the AFNQL, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the AFN and its National Chief neither represent nor speak on behalf of the First Nation members of the AFNQL regarding any matter relating to First Nations education.
