Another piece caught my eye actually before 5 even entered the e%hibit. 5n a glass case in the center of this e%hibit was a porcelain :M.; 7nce 5 saw it$ almost 6o)ingly 5 said :Mc#onalds.; 8o my surprise it was$ and once 5 got over to it and read the caption$ China McDonald (Flowers and birds) 5 was ta)en abac) by it. 5t was an M with a very interesting painted design on it. 8he caption read that the birds were drawn to flowers$ 6ust li)e a moth is to a flame. 8hroughout America$ we seem to be drawn to Mc#onalds$ 6ust the same way. <1 Give a brief, one paragraph 100 words) description of a special e!hibit as" the curator what these are# they are usually in one of the first rooms)$ 8he special e%hibit was called; 8he 4acred /or)s. 5t featured the religious wor)s of Carl 2loch$ *einrich *ofmann$ and "rans 4chwart=$ these artists specified on >esus Christ and his ministry. /hile there we9re very many paintings$ the ones that were there were beautiful$ and most of them quite large. An interesting thing 5 learned$ was that it was the first time that Carl 2loch9s wor) was ever moved from its original home. *is wor) has been$ ?since created1 housed at "rederi)sberg !alace in #enmar) for the last 0<. years. @1 What "ind of information is provided about the wor"s% &ell me three places you might find more detailed information that doesn't include the web (hint$ as" a curator for help with this )uestion* 8he hard part was that for the special wor)s$ there wasn9t much information provided to begin with. *owever at the beginning of each session for the 4pecial E%hibit they showed

us a video to tell about each of the artists and how 2 U was able to get them here. Another way that we could have gotten more information was 2 U had i!ads that you could rent. Each one came with headphones and interactive information provided for all the pieces of art. Another approach 5 too) to find out more about these artists was to actually loo) them up in a boo). 8hat9s where 5 found out more about Carl 2loch. .1 +hoose several wor"s that particularly appealed to you. ,!plain why you were drawn to these wor"s. +omment on the sub-ect, style, medium, time period, etc. Who were the artists%) &his )uestion must be answered in its entirety. &his should be at least 500 words Carl 2loch was probably the artist 5 was most attracted to. 8o start$ in general almost all of his paintings loo) as though 5 could have been standing there. 8hey were very life li)e. 7ne of his wor)s that caught me the most was that of his painting titled :Christ at Emmaus.; 8his wor) features >esus Christ sitting at a table with three other people. ou can only see the faces of Christ and one other person$ but it loo)s as though Christ is teaching. Around his head is a yellow glow$ it gives the impression that what is being said is that of godly inspiration. 5t is painted and for being several years old$ it9s still in ama=ing condition. Another one of Carl 2loch9s wor) that caught my eye was that of his wor) entitled :8he moc)ing of Christ.; 8his one specifically struc) me because of the detail to the wor). 5t features two people$ Christ and a roman guard. 8he guard is loo)ing at Christ and is clearly moc)ing him; however Christ is loo)ing outward$ to the viewer. *e9s draped in a red robe and has placed on his head the crown of thorns. 8his crown was specifically the part that hit me the hardest$ between the thorns and hair you could see blood$ which is accurate according to the bible. *owever this loo)ed real. 8his painting was truly on my mind as 5 left. 8he detail of the wor)$ the way that Christ loo)s at us as he is being tortured$ all of it left an impression on my mind. 8he first painting you see is titled :Agony in the garden; by "rans 4chwart=. 8his painting is quite large and attracts your attention quic)ly. 5t depicts Christ in the Aarden of Aethsemane praying very intently and an angel comforting him. 8he beauty of the painting is that while he was suffering$ he was indeed being guided along. /hat attracted me$ besides the vastness of this painting$ was the color. 5t was a mi% of blac) as blues that almost gave you a calming sensation. Aa=ing upon it gave me the sense of calm that 5 hoped the angel was giving Christ. All of these wor)s were of Christ so the time period is that of 0, 2C-0 A#. B) .ow did the artwor"s you loo"ed at relate to material we have discussed in class% (&hey do relate in many ways, you -ust need to loo" for those relationships* /inimum of 150 words. 8he special e%hibit was focused on Christ$ and Christ relates to ChristensCChristianity which we have studied in class. /hile it was a great ta)e on the aspect of the christen view of religion$ the e%hibit 5 found more applicable was that of shaping America. 5t gave a fantastic point of view of culture in America. 5 loved the way in each piece of art wor) it gave a bac)ground on the culture. "or e%ample there was a massive tower of handmade blan)ets. 5t was a symboli=ation of the Early American 5ndians. 8hey were horse blan)ets that were their primary source for heat and comfort. 5t was a fantastic way to see culture through things li)e paintings and artifacts.

D1 What was your personal reaction to this e!perience% Would you en-oy attending this type of event again% Why or why not% (/inimum 100 words* 8o be one-hundred percent honest$ 5 don9t consider myself an artsy-fartsy type of guy. *owever 5 do consider myself to be very analytical. 8his museum 5 would consider to be less artsy and more culture. 2ecause of this 5 would indeed li)e to attend another one. 5 don9t li)e loo)ing at a sculpture of s random mess or shape and trying to figure out its meaning. 2ut a painting of a man sitting on the sidewal) that represents the great depression is my cup of tea. 5 love paintings$ especially ones of people or things that to the na)ed eye you can recogni=e$ you may not )now what it means$ but the fact you can still loo) at it and understand it$ is what 5 li)e. 5 believe that more analysis from there offers a better discussion and thought. 0s always remember that I want to see reflective thin"ing on your part. 1how me you are aware of your limitations, your biases, etc. 1how me that you are thin"ing about your own responses and why you respond the way you do.
