Janessa Flores English 1102 Professor Douglas March 25, 2014 Annotated Bibliography Religious Views on Homosexuality: Botha,

Peet H. "Christianity and Homosexuals - Homosexuals and Christianity : Reflection." Word and Action = Woord En Daad. 46.398 (2006): 7-10. Print. In this text we see that Botha is attempting to portray that we now live in a day and time where homosexuality is viewed with more acceptance and less negativity. At the same time we see the issues from the past churches that date back to the times where homosexuality is viewed as a unnatural and negative act. In this article it gives the the views from both sides and shows that either side has a right to voice their opinions and in the end no one can be viewed as completely wrong because of the society that we live in today. Botha also speaks of how this subject can be viewed with skepticism from both sides as well. Botha gives a valuable argument and shows an unbiased use of the religious aspect on homosexuality. It teaches anyone who reads it an educated outlook on both matters. This article stood out among others because of its honest outlook on the matter, unbiased opinions, and supportive facts to both sides of the arguments presented. This source fits perfectly into research dealing with homosexuality because it shows the views of the topic in deep religious aspects and how others might question christianity when dealing with homosexuals. This article shows that not all religious aspects are negative towards homosexuals but they have that right to do so according to traditional church rules. Government Views on Homosexuality: Cardoso, Fernando L. "Political and Sexual Attitudes Concerning Same-Sex Sexual Behavior." Sexuality & Culture. 14.4 (2010): 306-326. Print. Cardoso offers viewpoints from a political standpoint of several different countries viewpoints including the United States on homosexuality. He did several studies including ones which showed which country was more willing to allow homosexuality in their countries and the reasons behind it as well. The political standpoint comes to life later on in the text when Cardoso explains the risk taken by being a homosexual. He also talks about the current laws of todays society and how the laws against homosexuals have recently been altered due to the current numbers that continue to rise from people declaring their homosexuality. As he goes down the line of recent laws declared everywhere he explains

the reasoning behind it and how it was passed. He not only focuses on the United States but he gives a broad overlook of all countries The research by Cardoso could be used to show the variety of laws that support or hinder the growth of the acceptance of homosexuality. Given the circumstances of each law it is easy to tell that this topic is still highly debatable but somewhat moving towards acceptance. His research continues to show why homosexuality has been such a well known talked about subject in everyday life in media everywhere. Heterosexuals: Carnaghi, Andrea, Anne Maass, and Fabio Fasoli. "Enhancing Masculinity by Slandering Homosexuals: the Role of Homophobic Epithets in Heterosexual Gender Identity."Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin. 37.12 (2011): 1655-1665. Print. Carnaghi explains the role of heterosexuals everywhere and what their viewpoints may be on homosexuality. She starts off by explaining the negative thoughts given off by heterosexuals but she focuses in on the male aspect by saying that the reasoning behind discrimination of homosexuals by males is due to the fact that they feel more masculine in doing so. Not only does it boost their self esteem it also shows that the gender role theory is proven to be very true and that heterosexuals feel uncomfortable around feminine men because of this theory. Her research includes several other theories but overall offers and standpoint and valuable reasoning as to why heterosexual people may not come to the same terms of others when dealing with homosexuals. Another viewpoint she gives is that some people find it offensive that homosexuals would even publicize affection for one another sensing that it is viewed as unnatural. Overall this research could be used in the context of how heterosexual people feel towards the openness of current media that surrounds everyone today. The research truely shows the physiological issues that are addressed due to the recent incorporation of homosexuality in media. Education: Dessel, Adrienne. "Effects of Intergroup Dialogue: Public School Teachers and Sexual Orientation Prejudice." Small Group Research. 41.5 (2010): 556-592. Print. Dessels research consisted of the educational standpoint of students and teachers all across America and how they felt about the hate and crimes committed against homosexuals. Her research explained some of the crimes committed and the reactions she got from educators that didnt favor homosexuality or view it as an issue. After all her research was conducted she gave a speech to show the importance of creating a safe environment for the homosexual students and in the end educators made the changes that were necessary. Her research did favor homosexuality but it also showed some of the viewpoints and concerns of educators and how they felt about their students being exposed to homosexuality. One of the issues raised was that children were too young to be exposed to such behavior but with recent media its hard to disclose such information.

This research could be used to show how educators feel on the matter of supporting homosexuality and it could also be used to show how important the issue actually is to lower the rates of self inflicted crimes and suicide. She shows that in order to successfully ensure the safety of students they need to be supported in any way possible to help them grow. Media: Falomir-Pichastor, Juan, Gabriel Mugny, Fabrice Gabarrot, and Alain Quiamzade. "A Regulatory Fit Perspective in Majority Versus Minority Support to Attitudes Toward Homosexuals." Group Processes and Intergroup Relations. 14.1 (2011): 45-62. Print. Falomir focuses on the support given in all media today on the matter of being a homosexual. This article explains that it is very crucial for homosexuals to receive support in the public because the United States has been striving to move towards an unprejudiced and nondiscriminatory portrayal especially in the media. He talks more specifically of the mental and moral support that todays media offers and how it uplifts those which are homosexuals. His article not only offers factual descriptions on how the media is supportive but also how it feels the need to incorporate a diverse aspect on homosexuals and even race and color. With Americas recent choice in politicians we currently are at a state of change and Falomir expresses the importance of broadcasting this into the media. This article would be most helpful when researching the effects media has on people as far as influencing them to accept certain things like homosexuality. It shows that true intentions of the media and the mindset that they have that if its shown enough as normal it will eventually be viewed as normal someday. With all of the research incorporated into this article it is clearly shown that the media has hidden intentions. Government: "New Laws Protect Homosexuals." Christianity Today. 43.13 (1999). Print. This article was written in the California paper quite some time ago but it declared one of the first laws passed to support homsexuals. California has been a prime example of how homosexuality can and should be dealt with in the eyes of people everywhere. This article focused on allowing same sex marriages, no discrimination when it comes to business and owning property, also allowing for homosexuals to live in peace. The purpose of this article was to show the viewpoint from one of the first states in America to make the executive decision to allow homosexuals to be protected under state laws and ensure development in these communities. This article allowed for a lot of positive feedback and it really reflects how government officials have handled the situation and supported the homosexual community. This research would be most useful when looking for a governmental model of how other states may benefit from allowing such laws as these. It also demonstrates one of the first articles put out in support of the homosexuals. It can easily be compared to media today where everyone is now trying to model their state after this.
