It is important for a media product like a film to appeal to the audience because otherwise there would be no consumers of the product and be no purpose of producing it. Films are made to make a profit and without an audience they wouldn't make any profit. An audience is the ideal group of people which will watch and consume the film, without an audience there would be no point. The target audience for our film are males and females of the ages 15-30. We aimed it at a younger audience as we was able to construct a film which connected with them. We have aimed it at the demographic groups C2DE but people who fall into the category of ABC1 may also watch our film. To research our audience, we created a questionnaire to gain the opinion of them. The audience wanted a realistic film which portrayed the true colours of society but entertains the audience too. They may want to see these things because it allows them to connect with the narrative of the film and to see solutions to the problems which they are facing within society. THEORISTS Richard Dyer His theory of Utopian solutions doesn't apply to our film because we show a more realistic view upon society therefore isn't perfect. Blumler & Katz The theory of Uses and Gratifications. Our film would fit under personal identity because our film gives an insight into Elizabeths life and represents the behaviour of youths. It also fits under social interaction because it gives an insight into the circumstances of others (Elizabeth) and our film can be a basis for conversation and social interaction due to the issues we present. Frankfurt School The Hypodermic Needle theory doesn't apply to our film because we allow the audience to think for themselves and be an active audience. Laura Mulvey The theory about objectifying women, we go against because despite Elizabeth being vulnerable she realises she can be an independent woman and Kyle doesn't take advantage of this.
