In my class there are 10 girls and 9 boys INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS (Component 1c) The students will be able to * Use their letter strips to spell the 15 spelling words * Understand how to make words from other words (ex. Fair into fairy) * Recognize the relationship between words INSTRUCTION (Component 1e) 1. Tell students to get their working with word notebooks out 2. Make sure students underline and write capitals 3. Have them number 1-15 in their journals 4. Go into words, giving clues 5. Walk around check progress 6. Call on one student to give and spell the word 7. List of clues to read to students ASSESSMENT (Component 1f) * Walk around and observe student progress * Listen and take note of responses * Make sure writing correct answer in journals and in cursive LESSON PLANS & REFLECTIONS Self Reection: For my rst lesson I think that everything went pretty well. Overall, I feel that my lesson was pretty successful and that I achieved my objectives. The students were able to derive the words that I was hinting at by the clues that I gave and use their letter strips to try and spell out the words. I really like that we are using these letters as tangible objects, instead of just writing the word, because I think that it really helps to understand how parts of words are used in creating other words. You say, Start with ring and add one letter to make a word that means This shows the students so well that words can be slightly altered to create other words which aids in remembering tools for spelling. The students seemed responsive and excited to me while I was in front of them. I had a hard time knowing how long to wait before giving the answer or going into the next word. I didnt know if I should wait until everyone was nished or just go ahead before they settled on a word. There were times, especially during the mystery word that students would walk around a help check their peers attempt at nding the mystery word, at this point I felt pretty out of control. At the end of the lesson, I felt that I did a pretty good job of bring everyone back together by having them sit and say and spell the word together before handing in their work. I think it went pretty well, and I learned a lot! Instructional goals: Students will be able to * Listen carefully and politely to story * Follow directions in order to complete task * Discuss squirrel facts * Practice rhyming words * Word well in a group Instruction: * Discuss squirrel facts * Make our squirrel facts poster. Kids help come up with ideas (teacher creates) * Read Stanley the Squirrel * When tree explodes cut open tree * Once story is nished, have the students pick a nut (the nuts have rhyming words on them) * Explain next directions * Play rhyming game o Each student has a nut o Music starts o Children dance o Music stops and I call out a word o Students whos with corresponding word dance in middle o Music turns back on o Continue process until all students are in the middle

It was so much fun. I used the Stanley the Squirrel story to introduce my lesson. We rst went over the knowledge that students know about squirrels. Then Stanley the Squirrel, our special visitor came (I used a squirrel puppet). After reading the story we played a dancing game in which we practiced our rhyming words. I think that because of my well thought out and prepared materials this lesson was specically successful. The students absolutely loved the squirrel puppet, and getting to get up and move around made the learning environment fun, active, and exciting. I was so impressed by the students ability to complete the tasks and objectives that I stated in my lesson plan. The students were attentive, vocal, and polite. All of the students were active thinkers when I asked them to think of things that they have observed about squirrels. They danced and found their rhyming partners without getting out of hand. If I were to do this lesson again, I would have the students read the word on their acorns before they started dancing. Also I would have written down the words that I would say when I stopped the music, because I lost track. Also I put both ag words, and eg words on the acorns and I feel that those words were all too closely related for a game like this. Also, I would have read over the story a few more times so that if I lost track of where I was I could just keep on going instead of reading it to the students. As the teacher, I learned that students love their education to be exciting and interactive and doing little games such as the one I taught, can really help children remember and learn information and concepts.
