A tr anscoder pool is a resource pool containing a number of transcoder resources sup porting a specific Channel Rate and Speech Version. From a transcoder pool, tran scoder resources are seized on a per call basis. The use of transcoder pools wit h on demand seizing of transcoder resources, will lead to better utilization of the installed transcoder hardware. The function also support self configuring transcoder pools. With these pools, a utomatic loading of transcoders with different DSP software and reconfiguration of transcoder pool sizes can be made, based on statistics for the usage of trans coder in each pool. The function belongs to BG-TRA. 2.2.41 Transcoding and Rate Adaptation This function encodes and decodes speech information and rate adapts data inform ation sent to and from the BTS. It also contains functions for Discontinuous Tra nsmission (DTX) and Mobile Crosstalk Control (MCC). MCC eliminates acoustic echo generated at the Mobile Station (MS). Speech information is encoded and decoded and data is rate adapted between the f ormat used on the A Interface and the format used on the Abis Interface. Speech Codecs for Full Rate (FR), Enhanced Full Rate (EFR), Half Rate (HR), AMR Full Rate, AMR Half Rate and AMR Wideband (WB) are supported. Only Full Rate tra nscoders can be seized for Semipermanent Connections. This function also handles administration and maintenance of the transcoder equi pment, test and fault localization, setting of line speech levels and support of the loop test. The line speech level is the reference level of a speech signal between TRC and BTS. Program loading of the transcoder EM makes it possible to remotely download new software to some transcoder hardware versions. The function belongs to BG-TRA.
