Community Service
The community service that I ha !artici!ate in is being a catechism teacher at my local
church an assisting a hea coach in high school bo"ling# Teaching catechism starts in
Se!tember an ens in $ay# %hile coaching bo"ling starts in &ugust an ens in 'ctober# The
reason that I o these t"o community services is because they are the (in o) community service
that hel!s out my community an, at the same time, serves my interest# I am a bo"ler an I
bo"le throughout high school# So it*s a great )eeling (no"ing the things that I (no" are being
!asse o"n the generations# Teaching catechism is a i))erent story# I love little (is an I
as!ire to be an elementary teacher# I am currently enrolle in the +lementary +ucation !rogram
at Chaminae, so I )eel that teaching catechism is one ste! closer to overcoming my reams#
I teach a class )ull o) )ourth graers about the Gos!el, I teach them about the Holy S!irit,
I teach them about Jesus# &n at times it can be a han)ul# It can es!ecially be a han)ul "hen I
have alreay so much res!onsibility )or these chilren -ust )or an hour# %ith the (is you have to
be care)ul "hat you say an o# It can be es!ecially har because I am still a nineteen year ol, I
am still a teenager, !ractically a (i mysel)# These )ourth graers coul be my brothers an
sisters, so anything can sli! out# +ventually, I got the hang o) it an reali.e that they are
mature an I got to holing my tongue on s"earing# I trie my harest to set a goo e/am!le to
this grou! o) chilren# The (is are )ourth graers, so o) course they "ill be bouncing o)) the

Hel!ing coach bo"ling hits home a little# I gre" u! "ith no hel! in bo"ling an I )eel
that i) I got that s!ecial attention I "oul have mae it to states or even gotten a bo"ling
scholarshi! )or college# I li(e the )act that I am hel!ing these teenagers e/cel in something that
they love# I) I see them having a ba ay, I ma(e sure that they can an "ill o the best they can#
I am also a coach because these (is nee the su!!ort# I (no" the )eeling o) oing something
an not having any su!!ort )rom your )amily# It*s al"ays nice to )eel that you have someone to
bac( you u!, so coaching these teenagers allo" me to also be their number one cheerleaer# I
thin( that at that age s!eci)ic su!!ort an avice is neee to achieve in anything# I am there to
hel! those stuents at something that they can achieve# I (no" that this is true because )or the
)irst time in a really long time, some o) our stuents on the bo"ling team ha mae it to the state
