Questions for LO4

Visual Language
Describe and analyse the composition of your image.
Explain why you have used your selected colours. What are the connotations of them?
My first image is a design for a poster for the Henley film awards, it has a bacdrop of the !egal "inema red
seats, a logo of the regal cinema on the top left of the screen, and at the right there is a shining silver curve which
separates the seats from a blac bacground with white text layered over the top of it.
My second image is a blac and gold design for an invitation for the same awards. #t has the top half in blac with
gold writing in a stencilled font, the lower half is in gold with a blac stencilled writing.
# didn$t select my colours for my first image with connotations in mind% # used silver and blac to contrast well with
the red of the !egal "inema seats and the white text to stic out against the blac. # thought that the range of
colours was bright and appealing, and the red seats lin well with film awards, as they could be connected with a
red carpet theme.
My second image uses gold and blac, the gold has a connotation of luxury, class, wealth etc. and so it is perfect
for use in my invitation. &he blac however doesn$t have great connotations, but it contrasts really well with the
gold, so # ignored the connotations of this colour.
Audience
'udiences can be defined by their social group, gender, peer group and what (obs they do.
Who is the audience for your image? )think wider than just students)
&he audience for my images are mainly students as it is only students that can attend, but also to members of
the general public, and to younger years. #$m targeting the general public because they may be interested in nowing
what the evening is about, and #$m targeting younger years as they may be thining about doing the course, and they
may be further interested if they see about the awards evening.
Historical and Cultural Context
Where have you drawn inspiration from when creating your design?
#s there anything in particular that has been incorporated into your design?
# didn$t use any inspiration for my first image, )poster* # (ust started with images of logo$s and of the regal seats, and
decided on what would loo good from there.
+or my second image, )#nvitation* # drew inspiration from the ,scars film invitation which # found on -oogle #mages. #t
uses a gold and blac colour scheme which looed really good and slee, and so # decided to copy the colour
scheme, and put my own twist on it.
# haven$t really incorporated anything into my poster that wasn$t of my own design and influence.
# incorporated the colour scheme of the blac and gold to my #nvitation.
Finished Product
Does your final product loo how you intended it to? #f not, why not?
#s your final product fit for its purpose as a poster.invitation etc?
What technical sills have you used to put your final product together?
What do you lie about the /loo$ of your final product?
What new things have you had to learn to mae this final product?
My final product loos how # intended, as # designed the image with the practical maing of it in mind. # tried to use a
font on my invitation that can be cut out easier than other fonts, and made sure that a blac coloured spray paint could
be used for the stencil.
# thin that my poster and my invitation is fit for its purpose, as # have ased other people what they thought of it, and
some responses # gained was that it could be a real poster and invitation, so # believe that they could fit its purpose.
# have used 0hotoshop, and stencilling for my poster and invitation, so # have enhanced my sills in design and in
stencilling. # found the design easy, as # am familiar with 0hotoshop, and # found the stencilling 1uite hard, as #
struggled to mae the stencil with cutting out the letters, and it was also 1uite time consuming..
# lie the loo of my poster$s colours, and # lie then curve that # put in. # had to mae a blac area in the poster in
order to mae the text visible, and # separated the blac and the image of the seats with a silver curve which loos
really slee and professional.
# have learned how to use stencils, and how they are made, and some techni1ue on how to cut out shapes without
ripping the paper.
Production process

How easy.difficult have you found creating images and ideas? What could mae this easier?
