Teen Pregnancy
While doing some research on some text written about teen pregnancy in the U.S I found
many articles and journals and cites about teen pregnancy. Many of these articles talk about teen
pregnancy at such a young age and how often it happens. There are a lot of teen pregnancy in
other countries besides the U.S. my goal in this paper is to cover the most details and cover facts
of teen pregnancy, rates, and the process of individuals that some go through based on these
articles. In the U.S there are a lot of high rates of teen pregnanies, but there are even more teen
pregnancy in other countries. Teen pregancie is not a problem in the U.S but all over the world.
In order to succeed this goal I have organized my paper into a few sections based on five
references that I have found. these are things we see in our everyday life and we can connect to
in some way. This will also explain and give facts about teen pregnancy.
The first article I found by (Pazol.k,Vital signs: Teen pregnancy) In 2009, approximately
401,000 teens aged 15-19 years gave birth in the united states, and the teen birth rate remains
higher than in other developed countries. When I read that I part I was pretty shock on how high
teen pregnancy rates were in 2009. The lowest rate ever recorded was in 1991. The black and
Hispanic teens birth rates were 59.0 and 70.0 per 1,000 females, in comparison to whites that
was 25.6 for white teens. The rates of birth in the United States have decreased but still remain
high, especially among the blacks and Hispanic teens in the southern states of the U.S. When I
read all these articles and facts it was a shocker to me. I couldnt believe how high the teen
pregnancy reates were. I really think there needs to be some sort of regulation to slow down teen
pregnancy.
My second reference is called BABY BOOM: (Caribbean today) states that the state of
world population 2013, produced by the U.N population fund (UNFPA), Notes that out of the 7.3
billion births, two million are to girls who are 14 years old or younger, many of whom suffer
from, grave long term health and social consequences from pregnancy. Many think its the
behavior or so is caused by actions of families, communities and governments. In addition it says
a countrys economy is also affected by teenage pregnancies. This can often many result to
teens not finishing school, and employment is harder to find. The (Caribbean today) also says
that. In the Caribbean countries the countries with the highest birth rates are: Belize, Guyana,
the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and St Vincent.
There are many things that can help prevent adolescence pregnancy at a young age. Pop
culture TV shows such as MTV reality TV show Teen mom. It encourages them to avoid teen
pregnancy. 82 % of teen mom viewers said that it has helped them have a better understanding of
the challenges that might face. Kailyn Lowry was 17 years old; she decided to let MTV record
her pregnancy as an inspiration for young teens across the U.S to wait to start a family. An
economic study of Nielsen television ratings and births has said that 16 and pregnant an MTV
TV show and its spinoffs may have prevented more than 20,000 births to teenage mothers in
2010. The reality TV shows such as Teen Mom can be a great encouragement to have safer
sex, or not to start a family at such a young age. Seeing these peoples lives on TV can really
reflect on you and have an impact on the decisions you make. In the New York Times it says that
MTV'S reality TV show has prevented 20,000 teen pregnancies.
A great way to get the educations out there to prevent teen pregnancy is through
television education. by this I mean television advertisements. There are many ads on TV that
have many key terms such as, logos which means logic or reasoning, ethos which means
credibility or trustworthiness, and pathos which is emotional and appeal, then there is kairos
which is propitious moment for decision making. All these key terms are very important and
essential to make ads very effective and people connect to. Editorial. Examines federal surveys
which revealed that sexual activity among teen in the United States have decreased in 1997, thus
reducing teen pregnancy. View that television advertisements are effective in public education:
information on the national campaign to prevent teen pregnancy. An Editorial by (Christian
Science monitor.5/22/97, vol. 89 issue 124, p20).
As we can see there isnt only one way to prevent pregnancy or educate people. The main
reason is lack of education. There is so many things that can help people. There is campaigns,
programs, school education, reality TV shows, advertisements and at home education. all these
can be helpful and can help prevent pregnancy or have safer sex. The main reason to why we
should put an effort to reduce teen pregnancy is for teens not have kids. Teens arent ready to
haev kids, they have their whole future ahead of them. There is high school that comes first to
finish. Get a decent job and attend college for a bettter and brighter future. Those who are teen
parents changes their fate completely, everything they had planned will most likely not be able to
accomplish. there would be high school drop outs, pverty and most likey teens have a second
child 10 to12 months after their first baby.
