LPG/C MAHARSHI VASISHTH --GAS FUNDAS.

THE RELIQUEFACTION SYSTEM HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO LIQUEFY VAPOURS BOILED OFF
DURING THE VOYAGE AND ALSO ANY VAPOURS PRODUCED BY DISPLACEMENT DURING
THE LOADING OF THE CARGO.EACH LIQUEFACTION MODULE CONSISTS OF A CARGO
COMPRESSOR AND A R-22 COMPRESSOR WITH AN HEAT EXCHANGER AND ASSIOCIATED
PIPE WORK.
CARGO COMPRESSOR:
SULZER BROS,TYPE K!"-2B OF 2-STAGE,2-CYLINDER DESIGN.DRIVEN BY A !" HP
ELECTRIC MOTOR THROUGH AN OIL LUBRICATED GASTIGHT BULKHEAD SEAL.EACH
COMPRESSOR IS PROVIDED WITH A SUCTION STRAINER TO PREVENT INGRESS OF DIRT
INTO THE COMPRESSOR.THE MAX.PERMITTED DISCHARGE TEMPERATURE AT WHICH
THE COMPRESSOR IS ALLOWED TO OPERATE IS #" $%&.C. '(" $%&.C WHEN CARRYING
BUTADIENE).
SAFETY FITTINGS ARE PROVIDED AS FOLLOWS:

CARGO CONDENSER:
THE LIQUID OUTLET FROM THE CONDENSER IS CONTROLLED BY MEANS OF A
DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE OPERATED EXPANSION VALVE ALLOWING THE CONDENSATE
TO EXPAND FROM ITS CONDENSING PRESSURE TO THE TANK PRESSURE WITH CONSTANT
ENTHALPY.
CARGO PURGE CONDENSER:
THE PURPOSE OF THIS HEAT EXCHANGER IS TO CONDENSE ANY CARGO GASES AND ANY
INCONDENSIBLE GASES THAT HAVE FAILED TO CONDENSE AT THE PRESSURE AND
TEMPERATURE PRESENT IN THE CARGO CONDENSER. THESE GASES ARE GIVEN ANOTHER
CHANCE TO CONDENSE,THEY ARE DISPLACED FROM THE CARGO CONDENSER INTO THE
SHELL OF THE PURGE CONDENSER WHERE THEY ARE SUB.ECTED TO THE SAME
PRESSURE AS THE CARGO CONDENSER BUT TO A CONDENSING TEMPERATURE
EQUIVALENT TO THE OUTLET OF THE EXPANSION VALVE.IN THE EVENT OF WHICH THE
CONDENSER PRESSURE RISES DUE TO THESE INCONDENSIBLE GASES THEN THE
PRESSURE CONTROLLED VALVE WILL OPERATE AND ALLOW THESE INCONDENSIBLE
GASES TO BE RELEASED TO THE MAST RISER. THIS PRESSURE CONTROLLER SHOULD
NORMALLY BE SET TO OPERATE AT A PRESSURE WHICH IS LESS THAT THE SET POINT OF
THE HIGH DISCHARGE PRESSURE SWITCH.
R-22 COMPRESSOR:

ELECTRIC MOTOR.THERE IS AN OIL SEPERATOR FITTED ON THR COMPRESSOR
DISCHARGE SIDE WHICH ALLOWS THE LUB OIL TO FLOW BACK INTO THE
CRANKCASE.THERE IS ALSO PROVIDED A MANUAL CAPACITY CONTROL FOR OPERATING
THE COMPRESSOR ON --2,((2, AND ""2.THE MACHINE IS ALSO PROVIDED WITH AN OIL
COOLER,THE COOLING MEDIUM BEING R-22 THROUGH AN EXPANSION VALVE.THIS OIL
COOLER IS NOT REQUIRED WHEN SUCTION PRESSURES ARE ABOVE !.- KG+CM2.
THE COMPRESSOR HAS THE FOLLOWING SAFETYS INCORPORATED.

CARGO CONDENSER LEVEL CONTROL:
THE LIQUID LEVEL SHOULD BE MAINTAINED AT ABOUT 2 - ! CMS ABOVE THE BOTTOM
OF THE CONDENSER SHELL.4.% ABOUT , 5 -" CMS SHOULD BE SHOWING IN THE SIGHT
GAUGE GLASS.
CARGO CONDENSER HIGH LIQUID LEVEL:
PURGE GAS CONDENSER PRESSURE CONTROL
R-22 LIQUID OUTLET CONTROL:
TO PREVENT R-22 LIQUID FROM RUNNING INTO THE CONDENSER TUBE STACK WHEN THE
R-22 IS NOT RUNNING OR IS STOPPED BY ANY ONE OF THE SAFETY DEVICES,AN AIR
OPERATED DIAPHRAGM VALVE IS PROVIDED OPERATED BY A SOLENOID SITUATED IN
THE MOTOR ROOM.THE CONTROL VALVE OPENS BY AIR PRESSURE AND CLOSES ON AIR
FAILURE.
CARGO LIQUID VAPOURISERS:
STEAM IN THE SHELL AND LIQUID CARGO INSIDE THE TUBES
THEY ARE SO DESIGNED TO PRODUCE ONLY SUPERHEATED VAPOURS IN THE HEAT
EXCHANGER WITH LIQUID IN.ECTION INTO THE VAPOUR OUTLET TO PRODUCE THE
DESIRED TEMPERATURE.THE TEMPERATURE OF THE VAPOUR IS MAINTAINED BY
MANUAL AD.USTMENT OF THE LIQUID IN.ECTION.
THERE ARE 2 SAFETY DEVICES PROVIDED AS FOLLOWS:
HIGH OUTLET VAPOUR PRESSURE '".23 KG+CM2) TO PROTECT THE CARGO TANK FROM
OVERPRESSURE OR TO PREVENT THE OPERATION OF THE VAPOURISER WITH THE LINE
VALVES CLOSED,
LOW OUTLET VAPOUR TEMPERATURE:
IN THE EVENT OF STEAM FAILURE OR EXCESSIVE LIQUID IN.ECTION,THE VAPOUR
OUTLET TEMPERATURE DROPS TO -!$%&.C,THE SWITCH OPERATES TO VENT THE
CONTROL AIR OF THE INLET VALVE,THUS CLOSING THE INLET VALVE.
CARGO HEATER + BOOSTER PUMP MODULE:
THIS IS SO DESIGNED TO HEAT AND BOOST THE PRESSURE OF THE DISCHARGING
CARGO.THE HEATER IS CAPABLE OF RAISING THE TEMPERATURE OF LIQUID PROPANE
FROM -#" $%&.C TO -# $%&.C AT A DISCHARGE RATE OF -""M-+HR,WITH A S.W
TEMPERATURE OF NOT LOWER THAN 6# DEG.C AND THE S.W FLOW RATE OF ABOUT
!!"M-+HR.
SAFETYS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
LOW S.W OUTLET TEMPERATURE OF 62$%&.C CAUSES THE LIQUID CARGO TO BE SHUT
OFF
LOW S.W SUPPLY PRESSURE SWITCH. THIS SWITCH SHOULD BE SET TO OPERATE .UST
BELOW THE INLET S.W ACTUAL PRESSURE PREVAILING.
PROPANE WILL CONDENSE AT ABOUT -# $%&.C
AMMONIA WILL CONDENSE AT ABOUT -"$%&.C
FOR PROPANE CARGO COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE PRESSURE WILL BE , BAR
FOR AMMONIA CARGO COMPRESSOR DISCHARHE PRESSURE WILL BE ! BAR
IMPORTANT: KEEP THE LPG CONDENSER COOL BY STARTING THE R-22 PLANT THEN
ONLY START THE SULZER COMPRESSOR TO START THE RELIQUIFACTION PROCESS.
THE CARGO THAT IS COMPRESSED NOW PASSES THRO7 THE CARGO CONDENSER THAT IS
ALREADY COOLED, WHERE IT GETS DE-SUPERHEATED AND CONDENSED. THE LIQUID
CARGO NOW PASSES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CONDENSER INTO THE EXPANSION
VALVE 'PNEUMATIC OPERATED) WHERE THE CONDENSATE IS EXPANDED AT CONSTANT
PRESSURE TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE TANK PRESSURE.DURING THE EXPANSION THE
LIQUID FLASHES OFF TO PART LIQUID AND PART VAPOUR,AND RETURNS TO THE TANK
AS A PART LIQUID + PART VAPOUR MIXTURE.THE OPERATION OF THIS EXPANSION VALVE
IS CONTROLLED BY THE LIQUID LEVEL IN THE CARGO CONDENSER THROUGH THE
PRESSURE TRANSMITTER.
COOLING DOWN PROCEDURES:
1ST METHOD:
BY INTRODUCING CARGO VAPOURS INTO THE CARGO TANKS, EITHER BY USING THE
VAPOUISER IN CON.UNCTION WITH LIQUID STORED IN THE DPV,OR BY USING THE SHORE
VAPOUR SUPPLY.THE LIQUEFACTION SYSTEM IS THEN USED TO CONDENSE THIS VAPOUR
AND RETURN IT TO THE TANKS BY WAY OF THE INTERNAL SPRAY PIPE SYSTEM.
2ND METHOD:
BY INTRODUCING LIQUID THROUGH THE TANK SPRAYS WITH LIQUID FROM THE SHORE
OR THE DPV.
3RD METHOD WHICH IS A COMBINATION OF THE PREVIOUS TWO
UNDER THE ST METHOD THE VAPOUR IS EITHER INTRODUCED GRADUALLY EITHER TO
THE TOP OR TO THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK DEPENDING ON ITS SP.GR TO DISPLACE THE
INERT GAS TO THE SHORE OR TO THE FORD.MAST RISER.ONLY WHEN THE
CONCENTRATION OF THE CARGO GAS IN THE INERT GAS REACHES 3#2,THE
RELIQUEFACTION PLANT MAY BE STARTED.
UNDER THE 2ND METHOD,A FASTER RATE OF COOL DOWN IS ACHIEVED BUT AS
DISPLACEMENT OF THE INERT GAS WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE,MIXING WILL TAKE PLACE,A
GREATER VOLUME OF GAS WILL BE VENTED ASHORE OR THROUGH THE VENT RISER.THE
COOL DOWN RATE IS AD.USTED BY CONTROLING THE CARGO LIQUID FLOW.
UNDER THE -RD METHOD THE POSSIBILITY OF DISPLACING THE INERT GAS AND A
FASTER COOL DOWN RATE ARE COMBINED.
START UP PROCEDURE FOR R-22 / CARGO COMPRESSOR:
ALWAYS START ON --2, KEEP VALVE FROM OIL SEPERATOR CLOSED.
WHEN OIL SEPERATOR HAS WARMED UP YOU MAY OPEN THE OIL DRAIN VALVE
SENDING OIL BACK TO THE CRANKCASE. THE PURPOSE OF CLOSING THE OIL
SEPERATOR OUTLET VALVE IS TO PREVENT ANY R-22 WHICH MAY HAVE
CONDENSED IN THE OIL SEPERATOR WHEN IT WAS STOPPED TO RETURN BACK TO
THE SUMP,THIS MAY CAUSE BOILING AND LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE.THE DRAIN
VALVE SHOULD ONLY BE OPENED AFTER THE SEPERATOR IS WARM TO TOUCH BY
HAND.
ONLY WHEN THE R-22 VAPOUR OUTLET 4.% R-22 COMPR.SUCTION TEMPR.HAS REACHED
-" DEG.C FOR AMMONIA CARGO AND -# FOR PROPANE CARGO, YOU MAY NOW
START THE LPG COMPRESSOR.ON #" 2 ONLY.,
GRADUALLY INCREASE THE R-22 COMPR.CAPACITY TO ((2 AND THEN TO "" 2.
AFTER START UP AND WHEN EVERY THING HAS STABILIZED, CHECK THE SUCTION
PRESSURE IF !.- BARS OPEN THE R-22 VALVE TO ALLOW FREON TO GO THRO8 THE
OIL COOLER.
THE R-22 SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO OPERATE WITH A MAXM.S.W TEMPR.OF -2 DEG.C,
WHICH MEANS THAT R-22 WILL CONDENSE AT A PRESSURE OF # BAR.THE R-22
EXPANSION VALVES ARE ALSO DESIGNED TO OPERATE AT # BARS.IF S.W TEMPR IS
VERY LOW YOU MAY HAVE TO SHUT THE S.W OUTLET VALVE TO RAISE THE
DISCHARGE PRESSURE AT ABOUT # BAR 5 0 BAR.
