The Personal Combative Shielding Device

By Tanner Jarrell

Team:
Tanner J arrell: Expert in Chemistry, Physics, and Magnetics.
Knowledgeable in robotics. Skilled in math and science.

Purpose:
To combat the lack of personal protection for soldiers on the battlefield by supplying them with a
device capable of blocking and deflecting projectiles and dampening the concussive forces of
explosions. The Personal Combative Shielding Device ( The PCSD) contains a magnetic core
that produces a magnetic barrier around the user. This field is capable of deflecting projectiles
such as bullets and shrapnel by repelling them with a magnetic charge. The device is capable of
dampening explosions by absorbing the force of the blast and storing it, allowing for a personal
concussion bomb of sorts to be made and deployed at will. This small device, only about 6
inches in width and 4 inches in height, can be secured around the persons waist like a belt
buckle and can be turned on and off at will by the press of a button.

Timeline:
2015: Development begins, cores are mass produced and frames are being constructed
2016: Testing of product begins. Refinements to weight, mobility, and durability of device.
2017: Testing Concludes. 1st generation of The PCSD is shipped to USMC.
2018: Development of 2nd generation begins. Battery life is extended and device is produced
with stronger core and more durable frame.
2019: 2nd generation is shipped to USMC
2020: 3rd generation to be developed for commercial use. Device made lighter and stronger.
Core made smaller and cheaper, still retains strength of previous gens. Ability to store and
release concussive blasts is removed.
2021: The PPSD is released to the public ( Personal Protective Shielding Device).

Budget: 800 Billion USD
Materials for Production: 400 Billion (Carbon Fiber Casing, Magnetic Cores, Materials for
Rechargeable battery)
Materials for Testing: 300 Billion (Facilities, Materials previously listed for prototypes)
Employee salary: 100 Billion, $20 per hour per employee
Employees Needed: Electricians, Physicists, Chemists,

Summary:
The PCSD is my solution to the problem of the lack of protection for soldiers on the
battlefield. The PCSD can be mass-produced to be able to protect our soldiers through the
power of science. A magnetic core at the center allows for the deflection of projectiles and
dampening of concussive forces. Plans for a commercial PCSD, The PPSD (working title) will
allow for workers in hazardous environments (construction yards, chemical labs etc.) to gain
necessary protection to stay safe on the job.
