Dear SDA Portfolio Committee,

During the two years I have worked with Katie in Learning Assistance Programs within
Seattle U Student Academic Services, Ive seen the quality of our services grow, our team
dynamics strengthen, and Ive noticed professional motivation and growth within myself
all impacts of Katies presence and work in the office. I have no doubt that she will bring the
same motivation, positive growth, and personal and professional integrity to the field of
student affairs.
Katie has an incredibly caring heart, which she brings to her work every day. She has been
supporting me in my supervision of 25-30 student leaders who we meet with for ongoing
training throughout each academic quarter. The training workshops that we have
presented for our student leaders have been significantly more substantive and impactful
due to Katies commitment, thorough thoughtfulness, and critical thinking. Collaborating to
come up with a common goal for training activities and topics has been seamless and
energizing, and her organization and planning has strengthened the foundation of training
practices for the Learning Assistance study group program.
Along with Katies strong program management skills, I am continually struck by the
genuine care with which Katie interacts with students. She is an intent listener, which
shows up every time she remembers an important detail about a students life, making that
student feel valued and welcomed. You know that when you are talking with Katie, you
have her full attentiona trait that has made me feel supported and connected on
countless occasions, and a trait that gives me full confidence in her work with students.
Personally, it is Katies dedication to her workto doing the best possible job in every
situation, no matter how large or small the taskthat has impacting me the most, and has
changed the way I do my job for the better. The fact that Katie puts her all into every task or
project she is given is truly admirable, and Ive found myself paying more undivided
attention to my own tasks and responsibilities due to her influence. As a result, Ive felt
more proud of my work and the quality of it has strengthened.
Katie possesses the qualities I believe are essential for student affairs professionals:
genuine care for students, dedication to growth, strong interpersonal skills, polished
professionalism, and the commitment to align everyday work with institutional goals and
mission. In addition, Katie brings a level of integrity and dedication to her work that is
often lost in a field that demands excellent work with scarce resources. Its easy for us as
professionals to get lost in details, get caught up with deadlines, begin skimming rather
than reading important emails, and lose sight of the importance of focus and clarity in our
work. Katie is among the most focused professionals I have met and she will be a treasure
for the field of student affairs.
Sincerely,
