Proposal
By Shaquille Keith
Purpose of interview: The purpose of the interview is to get a cross the message that binge
drinking is nothing to be taken lightly. The aim of this is to make teenagers aware of the
dangers of drinking. I chose this format because I think it puts across the message in a very
constructive way in which I think will engage my target audience.
Format and style of interview: The investigative format is a very good technique used when
wanting to make an impact on your selected targeted target audience. Being that my target
audience is teenagers, I feel this would make a vital impact in the youth community. How I will
structure this is by posting a series of facts and statistics accurately together. Investigative is a
very formal approach to sensitive topics, but my designated one is drinking. My goal by the end
of it all is to make sure that I have passed across the message that binge drinking is not
appropriate, not to dismiss drinking as a whole but to pass across the message that things can
be enjoyed in abundance.
Research you have carried out: The research I will need to carry out for this proposal varies.
The first type of information I want to gain is quantitative, which will help give me figures which
I can use as statistics, which would help me to give the general public an idea of how much is
being consumed and abused by teenagers and who it most likely ranges from. I plan to do this
is by to design a questionnaire consisting of 10 -15 questions which I will give to the general
public. This will help me inform my audience what is happening amongst their peers and their
age group and itll be down to them whether they think their actions are suitable or not. My
other of getting information is by doing qualitative data research. Unlike quantitative this style
of information gives me a more detailed as to why something is happening. For example
questionnaire questions like Do you drink? Which will simply give me a yes or no, will help me
to find out how many people will drink where as if I did something such as a focus group I can
ask why do you drink? I will get a much more detailed answer which is something that would
be good to use as evidence when asking the interviewee if the statements are true in his/her
opinion. Another way is to interview those who seem to tend to those who suffer from a good
night out with the lads syndrome (in other words, teens whom appear to drink TOO much
during their evenings out). I plan to ask a police officer and a nurse what are their takes on such
behaviour and what we can do as a community/society to make it change. I also plan to ask a
series of quantitative questions such as how many teens on average do you tend to each
night, by doing this Im hoping for a response of such a ridiculous answer that itll definitely
make an impact on my target audience. Hospitals in question consist of:
- Queen Elizabeth Woolwich
- St Thomas London
- Lewisham Hospital Catford

For police officers I plan to ask frightening questions such as do you have to make arrests on
teens who dont have any control. Im confident in this question in particular because Ive
already done some background information and am aware of the fact that sometimes some
arrests are made. No matter what teenagers tell you, the majority of them are scared of the
law, when theyre with their friends; sure its all fun and games to call the police officer names
but when they start to threaten you with a criminal record they tend to straighten up. After all
a criminal record can effect employment and other long term goals. Once the teenagers hear of
such a conduct itll definitely send a shock and make them reconsider. My aim here is to make
them start to look at the long term as well as the here and now. This kind of law is known as
public intoxication which could lead to paying a find of 80 or even bailed to appear at a local
court. Police stations in question consist of:
- Lewisham Police Lewisham
- Bexleyheath Police station - Bexleyheath
- Greenwich metropolitan police - Greenwich
I will also plan to take out my own research and look at the effects alcohol has on the human
body. For example I will make note of how alcohol consumption can effect day-to-day life

Why is this interview idea suitable for Dirty South? You will find that this will be suitable for
my target, it is informative. In parallel to their childish, drunken antics, I am approaching my
target audience on a mature level. I am supplying them with information which would definitely
come of use to them in the long term, in the hopes it would give them realistic aspect of what
damage theyre doing to themselves and what could still potentially happen if they continue to
do what theyre doing. You never know the impact it could have one person, and even still if its
just one person it effects, thats one persons life whos potentially saved, one more mother
who isnt worried or concerned, one family who doesnt feel compelled to seek help for a loved
one, one less college drop out. Now if my show can have this effect on one person, imagine the
outcome if it effects thousands, judging by each person it effects around them, it could
potentially effect five thousand for every thousand which is a great difference. I cant imagine
any more of a reason as to why this idea isnt suitable for dirty south. The idea of changing lives
through the media is most fitting, considering thats what most teenagers are consumed by
these days.
Another reason why it can be found suitable is because of the age group Im aiming at its not
like I cant refrain from showing them the truth about their actions. Sometimes teenagers need
a reality check here and then and I feel like this interview, without a doubt is a sure enough way
to do so.

Proposal
By Shaquille Keith
Proposed time and date of interview: I would plan to have this interview done by the end of
November, because I would need time for editing and producing. I plan to have the product
finished but at least the start of December (if not then mid-December for the latest).

Proposed location of interview: The location of each interview would ideally take place in an
environment suitable for each profession. For example, a Nurse would be interviewed in a
hospital and a policeman/woman in a police station. I want to do this so that I can emphasize
each interviewees job status. I personally would take an interview more serious in an
environment that would seem very formal. In the case that I wouldnt be able to place an
interview in these desired locations I would relocate my interview to somewhere of a suitable
standard. Such as their home or perhaps a suitable caf (but that would be a last resort).
Feedback:
This proposal seemed to have been the most effective proposal. It is safe to say that this is the
proposal I will be pursuing. The only change I am going to make is that I will be making the
nurse talk about situations that have happened in the A&E ward rather than facts and statistics.
Im doing this to engage my target audience even more as they said this would keep them
interested in the show.
