This is the motto of Virginia Tech and the VTSASE chapter is proud of
standing by this motto by providing numerous opportunities to the members. CAMEO Career Fest. VTSASE
was able to help CAMEO, Council for the Advancement of Minority Engineering Organizations, via getting
people to volunteer to help make sure the event runs smoothly, while also encouraging people to actually
show up at the event to talk to various companies for summer and beyond career opportunities.
Furthermore, the Big event at Virginia Tech was the biggest opportunity that VTSASE chapter provided for
the members. The Big event is the second largest event of its kind in the nation where thousands of
students, faculty, and staff come together to complete nearly one thousand community service projects
throughout Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the New River Valley. This was a very unique event because the
chapter members were exposed to a truly unparalleled experience where they came together with the
community members and lent a helping hand to get a job done more effectively. This year, we had the
opportunity to assist two houses in the local community. This year, we had the tasks of assisting in cleaning
up yards, and repainting surfaces, and managed to gather 21 people to help assist in this all-day event. In
doing this, VTSASE members get a chance to get to know and grow closer to the local community as a
whole. Moreover, the members were also able to perform charitable volunteering services by taking part in
events such as 4-H community service, and Food collections during the beginning of the year. Therefore,
the members were provided with numerous opportunities to contribute towards those in need in the local
community. All in all, we were able to contribute well over 200 hours of service across the year. Most
importantly, these experienced allowed the volunteers to develop professionally and personally especially in
areas such as self-fulfillment, self-confidence, and self-esteem which are often the major characteristics in
the midst of volunteering experiences.
