FREQUENCY RESPONSE OF COMMON BASE AMPLIFIER

AIM:
To measure the frequency response of common base amplifier.
Apparatus:
BC107, Resistors, Capacitors, AFO,RPS, CRO
THEORY:
The basic circuit of a common base amplifier (CB), using symmetrical power supplies,
is shown in Fig.1a. Its small signal ac equivalent circuit is shown in Fig.1b [1] . The
input resistance of the amplifier is low (order of few ohms), the output resistance is
high (order of kiloohms), the current gain is less than unity, and the voltage gain is
high. Due to these characteristics the CB amplifier is usually used as a
transimpendance amplifier, when or as a current amplifier, when
. On the other hand it operates at much higher frequencies than a
common emitter amplifier.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

PROCEDURE:
Connect the circuit as per the diagram shown
Set the input voltage Vi=1V at 1KHZ
Vary the frequency from 10Hz to 1MHz in convenient steps and note the output
voltage
Find the voltage gain Av and tabulate the output voltage
Plot Av Vs frequency
Find the upper and lower frequency at 3db level
Find bandwidth B.W =f2-f1.

RESULT:
Thus a common base amplifier using BJT was constructed, frequency response
was plotted, gain and gain bandwidth was calculated.
