Executive Summary
Stephen Hawking claims that A.I. could end mankind. They could make automated
weapons used in war. A.I. is the combination of many different sciences, and uses a
combination of mathematical algorithms that consider every possible option. The best way we
can stop this from happening is to not give computers with A.I. dangerous weapons. We
become enslaved so easily by technology without A.I. that if something like an iPhone was
given A.I. the world would become enslaved rapidly. We can stop A.I. if we learn to manage our
technology better, and learn to control ourselves and our need for technology.
Ethics
Ethics are moral principles that govern a person's or group's behavior. This can vary
from copying your homework, to plagiarizing someones song or video. It can be just things that
we overlook everyday, or things that we protest. They are very controversial, depending on the
topic. Now imagine discussing the freedom of an entire country. Thats how controversial ethics
are, and what they can become.

Controversy Surrounding A.I.
Stephen Hawking claims that artificial intelligence can end mankind. He claims that A.I.
could make automated weapons used in war. He claimed that those weapons could get out of
control, and attack the public. He was speaking to the creators of the new A.I. movie,
Transcendence. They quote: "It's tempting to dismiss the notion of highly intelligent machines
as mere science fiction. But this would be a mistake, and potentially our worst mistake in
history,"

Brains Behind the A.I.
Well, A.I. is a combination of a lot of different fields including computer science, psychology,
linguistics, philosophy and neuroscience. Research into it has become such a focus that it has
its own majors and such, rather than all of these combined majors. It also uses math,
considering that all of its ideas are just a large amounts of mathematical algorithms that
include every possible situation. When there is a situation that the algorithms cannot understand
or consider, then we find bugs in the A.I. This is when they stop working and need some sort
of factor to fix it, be it a change of inputs, or maintenance to accommodate for the newly
discovered situation.

How Does it Matter?
Well, people argue that we can control our machines, were their master. Thats not
always the case, because if you walk down the streets today you will see countless people on
their cellphones and on some sort of technology. Although this isnt A.I., were already being
enslaved by machines that arent even intelligent! They are also developing self developing A.I.,
which allows the computer to develop according to the conditions. Now imagine if a self
developing A.I. got into the position of the iPhone, the best selling product ever created. It could
possibly develop to a point where were enslaved and overrun by our own machines.

My Standpoint
I personally fall into the group of people who need some form of technology around them
at all times. Be it following current news, or just whats going on in my Tumblr, I almost always
have the internet by me. Im that enslaved scum I was talking about before. That being said, if

this ever did happen I would be one of the first affected. Do I think that its a good thing? Of
course not.
Stopping A.I.
A scientist named Steve Omohundro had thought up three ways to stop this from
happening. His first thought was to stop the creation of harmful A.I. systems from being created
in the first place. We're not yet at the point where malicious A.I. is being created. Careful
programming with a Hippocratic emphasis ("First, do no harm.") will become increasingly
important as A.I. technologies improve, said Dr. Omohundro. He then said To detect malicious
A.I. early in its life before it acquires too many resources. This is a matter of simply paying close
attention to an autonomous system and shutting it down when it becomes clear that it's up to no
good. following that by To identify malicious A.I. after it's already acquired lots of resources.
This quickly approaches sci-fi nightmare territory, and it might be too late at this point, claimed
Dr. Omohundro.
Doesnt This Kind of Seem Like a Sci-Fi Movie?
When you look at the facts, it kind of seems like a movie. We never expected that the
world would come to a point like this, and no one ever expected the fear of A.I. to ever become
a real threat. There have been hundreds of movies on the fear of robots taking over the world.
But the facts show that this Sci-Fi movie is becoming reality. Maybe not to the extents of some
of these movies, but rather us feeding the beast more.
In Conclusion
A.I. is one of the biggest inventions known to man. Considering how poorly we balance
our personal life with our phones, I personally believe that if A.I. ever became a real problem,

then we wouldnt have the slightest clue on how to fight against it. A.I. could be the invention to
save the world, or destroy it.

A very strong report. You have clearly defined the some of the major problems with AI. You
have written your report well (see a few comments within for feedback on where to improve).
This is a tough issue to address.

For next time, map out your flow and what content should be in each section to begin. There
are a few areas that repeat the same information and you could include it in one section and
then check it off the list. Also, more tangible examples - about something that is in
development or a computer that has AI could help support your report along with more research
points (specifics). The section on the Steve Omohundro section is really well supported with
research!

Overall very strong!
