VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball is a famous sport played
internationally
It involves 6 players on each team
Many skills are used in this sport
Can be played at the beach or indoors



INTRODUCTION
The serve should be received with a bump
Also called a forearm pass
Feet shoulder width apart
Bend knees, so they are over feet
Make fist and grip fist with other hand
Keep thumbs straight and extend arms

THE BUMP
Also called a pass
Usually the second hit after the bump
Hit ball with finger tips
Used to set the ball to a spiker
Puts the ball up high in the air
Contact ball above your head




THE VOLLEY
2 types of serves: overhead
and underhand
Ball must come in contact
before the back boundary
Underhand: Hit with bottom
of your wrist below the waist
Overhand: Thrown up and hit
like a spike

THE SERVE
Usually the third hit after the set
Should be very powerful
Hit with a flat hand ideally to a back corner
Player should jump and strike ball above
head
Usually received with a bump


THE SPIKE
Used to net to block the ball after a spike
Other players adjust to where the ball is hit
Formed by making a wall with the
players hands
A hit by the same player after a block is
allowed

THE DEFENSE
The boundaries are as the ref
says (rectangle around)
Areas of players are divided
into 6
Touching the net is not allowed
Contacting the ball outside the
boundaries is allowed

Knee pads are usually worn by
players
Volleyball net height varies by
age

Female players usually wear
very short, tight shorts
Jerseys can be long sleeve,

EQUIPMENT/CLOTHING
Volleyball games are played in sets
There are up to 3 sets
The first 2 sets are 25 points
Third set is played only if each team won a
set
Third set is 15 points

Any body part is allowed
to be used
3 hits is the maximum
for one team
A player cannot double

Players rotate clockwise
when they win back a
serve
