Definitions of HRIS

The human resource information system (HRIS) is basically a database system developed to
assist HR in decision making and reporting (Yadav). (Ahmer) HRIS referred to the systematic
computerized processing of human resource functions in an organization. The major function of
HRIS was to retrieve and disseminate appropriate information pertaining to human resources.
(Gupta) An HRIS is a systematic procedure for collecting, storing, maintaining, retrieving and
validating the data needed by an organization for its human resources, personnel activities and
organization unit characteristics. HRISs can also provide the management with a decision
making tool rather than merely a robust database.
