Understanding of DNA

Introduction
Hello my name is Stephen Fodor and I was born in Seattle, Washington.

I didnt plan on going to college but I eventually did, and graduated with a B.S in Biology from
Washington State University.

After my first degree I stayed at WSU to get my M.S in biochemistry, I then went to Princeton
in 1985 to get my Ph.D.

By the end of this presentation i would like you to learn the part that I played, in helping us to
better understand the DNA molecule.

My research has helped us to see what the DNA strand looks like, from a new point of view.

With the connection of technology and science, we can now see the DNA molecule
magnified, and this helps us to understand how exactly DNA works.

This will all help us clearly find what type of mutations and happen in DNA, and this can
help us prevent or help cure these mutations.

Experiments
When I was working at Affymax, I worked with colleagues in different sciences to enhance these methods.

My team and tried an experiment where we used photolithographic methods with traditional chemical techniques.

This allowed us to see DNA in a more clear view. Now we could see many molecules at the same time, and also study
how they work together.

The DNA chip is a technology that looks at DNA deeply.

It shows us how DNA creates, and works with other molecules.

This helps us to better see how DNA individually works, and how it works with other molecules.

This can be used to compare the genetic functioning of normal versus abnormal cells, as well as the response
of cells to drug treatments

Variations of this technology can also be used to assess gene functioning

Things to Remember
With this technology we can research and study the personality of these individual DNA
strands to see the errors and mutations of the DNA and help and figure out how to mend
the DNA structures to become its rightful whole.

The research helps to eradicate diseases by identifying possible cures.

We could only look at DNA in part, not in a whole.

Now that we have this technology there is space for more improvements to better find a
cure for diseases that come from malfunctions in DNA.. This means that we can both cure
and prevent certain mutations.

This can be used to compare the genetic functioning of normal versus abnormal cells, as
well as the response of cells to drug treatments

Variations of this technology can also be used to assess gene functioning
