Dovilla Legislation on Government Accountability and Transparency
Passes Ohio House
Legislation Creates State Government Expenditure Database for Public

COLUMBUSState Representative Mike Dovilla (R-Berea) today announced passage of
House Bill 175, Open Ohio. H.B. 175 provides for a state government expenditure
database showing taxpayers exactly where their money is being spent.

Ohio is continually ranked as one of the least transparent states in the nation when it
comes to providing taxpayers with relevant, easily accessible information on state
spending, said Dovilla. It is time for Ohio to move into the 21
st
century when it comes to
providing information on state spending. Ohio taxpayers deserve to know what their
money is being spent on and where their money is being spent.

Open Ohio will be a searchable, freely accessible database for all Ohioans to utilize. This
new system will display the expenditure information of state agencies, including the
amount and date of the expenditure, the person to whom the expenditure was paid, and the
state entity that made or requested the expenditure.

House Bill 175 will now head to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
