Chapter 1 Pre-Test (Informal Formative): This will be completed before I start teaching the

unit plan.
Purpose: I will be able to assess my students prior understanding and knowledge of how
to earn money, and I will be able to see if they know how to do various mathematical
calculations that are involved in several lessons within this unit plan.
Stakeholders: Both the students and I will benefit from this assessment.
o The students will be able to review what they already know and find out what
they may struggle with in this math assessment.
o I will be able to know where my students may struggle and what math
calculations we may spend less time on.
Specific Objectives: The student will
o Calculate weekly wages based on hourly rates.
o Estimate annual wages by using hourly rate, number of hours worked per week,
and number of weeks worked per year.
o Find the number of hours worked in one day.
o Find time and a half rates and double time rates based on an hourly wage.
o Find the number of total hours, regular hours, and overtime hours.
o Find total wages, using time and a half and double time to compute overtime
wages.
o Use the total number of items produced and the piece rate to calculate wages.
o Find the amount of money rounded to the nearest cent, dime, and dollar.
o Calculate a persons yearly earnings.
o Calculate the amount earned during a pay period.
o Change a percent to a decimal.
o Calculate the commission earned on sales with different commission rates.

Action Plan
o I will take the information gathered from the chapter pre-test to help them better
understand the material taught in this first lesson and in future lessons.
o I will look at the various items on the pre-test to determine where my students
struggle the most. From there, I will focus my lessons on specific areas that need
to be addressed.
