Names and Formulas of Ionic Compounds

Purpose: To observe the formation of ionic compounds via a double replacement reaction and
write their names and formulas
Materials:
- Well-plate
- 0.1 M solutions of barium nitrate, aluminum chloride, sodium hydroxide, aluminum
sulfate, potassium chromate, and silver nitrate.
Safety:
- Always wear safety goggles and apron
- Potassium chromate and sodium hydroxide are toxic, corrosive substances that can
cause severe skin and eye injury.
- Aluminum chloride is an irritant. Avoid skin contact
- Silver and barium compounds are poisonous. Avoid contact with these chemicals and
wash hands thoroughly after use.
- Silver nitrate will stain skin and clothing. Handle the bottle with care

Analysis and Conclusion:

1. The mixtures that did not form a precipitate: Ba(NO3) 2 + AlCl3, Ba(NO3) 2 + NaOH,
Ba(NO3) 2 + AgNO3 , AlCl3 + Al2(SO4)3, NaOH + K2CrO4 , Al2(SO4)3 + AgNO3
