AUSL Principal
3400 N. Austin Ave.
Chicago, IL 60634

Dear Principal:

It is my firm belief that all students, regardless of their background, have the innate ability to learn if they are given
the proper environment to do so. Students must have the chance to flourish in a school and classroom environment
that values their input and development, not only as learners, but as a young men and women as well. This
environment, coupled with caring teachers that maintain high expectations for all students, will empower students to
maximize their potential.

Please accept my letter of application for a High School English teaching position at an AUSL School. I believe my
exceptional undergraduate and graduate academic record and year-long residency at Chicago Academy High School
have properly prepared me to be an effective urban teacher. I am particularly interested in utilizing my teaching
skills, residency experience, and knowledge of High School learners to further develop the minds of students.
Through the Academy for Urban School Leadership, I observed, developed, and implemented best teaching and
classroom management practices. In my one year residency I have:
Differentiated instruction for multiple learning modalities and skill levels in both CP-A English and Honors
English
Utilized essential student data from multiple sources to inform planning and instruction
Designed and implemented multiple performance-based assessments
Aided with the development and implementation of a student-friendly Close Reading process
Successfully implemented the Behavior Management Cycle while also utilizing the Signature Strategies
Facilitated student learning by designing lessons that encourage cooperative learning through a variety of
group activities and discussions
I believe that my commitment to high academic standards and my dedication to the consistent development of my
skills as a classroom teacher make me an ideal fit for an AUSL school. I thank you for your thoughtful
consideration, and I look forward to hearing how I can contribute to achieving your schools goals.

Sincerely,

Carl J. Elsik
