Possible Activities Anticipatory Set:
I will ask students questions about Volcanoes and what causes it to
happen to test them about previous lesson.
Model:
I will write on the board as I narrate the process of a volcanic
eruption and the aftermath of an eruption.
I will make a list of things what we are going to do (like format I
will use)
I will start with an introduction, middle, and conclusion, including
some descriptive words that have been written on the board.
I will use transitional words to introduce main points. (Give students
a list of transitional words and phrases on the side or on the board).
I will include other characters in the narrative and give details and
sequence of events.
Guided Practice: (Group work):
Students in each group will be asked to add more ideas and details to
the narrative.
Students in each group will use descriptive words on the board to
add more details to narrative.
Gifted Students: Students in this group will search the web to find
the good and bad side of volcanoes, and/or do an oral presentation
about their findings.
Students will add details while using their textbook as reference.
(ELLs, Gifted and regular students)
Check for Understanding:
I will use KWL to check for understanding as well as for
assessment.
Adaptation/Modification:
I will give students written directions to supplement verbal
directions.
I will move at a slow rate as I present the lesson
I will show pictures of an aftermath of a volcanic eruption for
students to see.
Independent Practice:
Students will write a narrative about an imagined eyewitness
account of a volcanic eruption and what he/she will do. Give a
