Synopsis

Hydraulic Fracturing Treatment Design in CBM

As coals have low permeability, some type of formation stimulation is required in order to obtain
commercial gas production from a coal seam. The most widely used technique of stimulation in CBM is
Hydro-Fracturing. The objective of hydro fracturing is to create a wide vertical fracture of greater
length to create a conduit that connects the complex cleat system to the well bore. Conventional
models cannot be applied to the coal, due to the extensive cleat systems that exist in the seams, the
extremely plastic nature of the coal and the shear decoupling that exists between the coal and the over-
and under-lying rock strata. Without the aid of reliable fracture models,.
