Learning Objectives What do you want your classmates to learn? Students will: Understand how teachers accommodate child poverty in the classroom. Assessment How will you know your classmates have learned? Poll everywhere How does child poverty affect elementary classrooms? Article jigsaw. Briefly discuss and write one answer on the board to how can teachers accommodate child poverty in the classroom? Materials What resources will you need for your presentation? Introduction 5 minutes Talk about our practicums briefly and pose our main question. Have each student take 10 steps and text in one thing (on poll everywhere) from their prior knowledge that they know about child poverty. Briefly discuss these points. Body 15 minutes Give one article to each school group and have them read and understand it as a group. Students will then pick a domino and match up with the other dominos of that color. Then they will explain the key points of their articles with their color groups and fill out the graphic organizer with the main points from each article. Closure 10 minutes For the closing activity we will have the class return to their school groups and discuss the main question: how can teachers accommodate child poverty in the classroom? We will then have each school group write one idea on the board in regards to the main question. Briefly discuss.
