A Literary Analysis and Overview Paper

A literary work such as this entitled The Laughter of my father was interpreted to form
a story enriching somewhat cultural heritage and tradition. The authors grasp and motivation to
try in exploring the ideas of social gatherings and relations highlighted much a more directed
approach for the reader. In addition, a very unusual but implicit method of describing the setting
where the story took place was not overstated to confuse the reader. It is also revealed timeline
and character portrayal. Although, it is a very interesting quality that apart maybe from the
authors intention was on how the summary of work was revealed to invoke a tendency for the
reader to be unsettled and gradually be captured and in eagerness because of the hint of
thought that the reader tries to forward. Also, the writers intent does not necessarily present
you, as the reader, a straight-forward assumption at the ending wherein most probably should be
in accordance to the theme the story was based upon. But more often than not, notice that the
authors primary concern was to provide the reader with enough supporting details through his
effort in order for the reader to somehow arrive at a certain level of meaning. Furthermore, the
author was able to organized the turn of events in a premeditate manner to somehow but not
intently spoil the reader as it is anticipated, he or she would therefore be hesitant by that point. A
good example of this is the shifting of character motives and personality in the long-run view of
the story. This helps the genre of creating a fusion of emotions and responses to the audience
themselves. Either it is a love story, an old-village story or a typical short story inspired by the
reality of social relations, its constraints under belief and law, and also especially family-ties.
Basically, it is a narrative story that readers would final catchy in a sense and regarded as jus a
piece of reading material. The inspiration was evidently drawn from a close friends experience
perhaps or a relative. It is because the author was rarely seen to portray the principal character in
the story; here was also insufficient evidence to draw him as such. Maybe he was just in partial
appearance. Also, a disturbing factor was the minimal supplementing of relevant descriptions.
Moreover, the authors attitude was somewhat informatory but to be implicit. On the other hand,
characterization was of poor quality such that precision for detecting the character in the story
was not really taken into rigorous consideration. Another concern was the less priority to sustain
the function of the principal character with supporting characters also to direct the readers
attention to a definite flow of the story. It will ruin readers present mind-setting and mislead
readers awareness towards the outcome of the story especially the young ones in particular. The
author partly reveals characterization but has an ideal way of constructing the story backdrop in
terms of orientation and supplementation of ideas to elaborate a particular even in the material.
In terms of language, the author was rigid and objective to cater most readers taste. The author
delivered the story in the Standard English language including Philippine terminologies which
readers would find essential and metamorphic in some sense, leads to a constructive and be open
to cultural diversity. Denotations and connotations revealed around the reason for the story to be
entitled as such and also partly explain distinct quality the story possesses. Finally, the overall
valuation of the story is effective but requires improvement such as dramatization and character-
role variation. The story stands between its appeal to readers and the innate value on why I
should read Philippine heritage and literature?
