Standard 4- Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Standard 6- Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.
Objective: I can use PowerPoint to create a presentation to myself to tell the teacher about myself.

Problem Statement: In order to tell the teacher about me, I am going to create a power point with details about my life. I will use color and clip art to show my personality.
Lesson Description: At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to create a PowerPoint. The student will use their prior knowledge of descriptive words & adjectives and inserting clipart into this project. The student will use Microsoft PowerPoint to create their About Me presentation.
Lesson Procedure: Introduction: The teacher will explain to the class that PowerPoint presentation software is a great way to visually explain a topic.
Procedures: GUIDED PRACTICE PRIOR TO THE COMPUTER: Introduction/ Anticipatory Hook- 5 minutes The teacher will present to the students a teacher-created PowerPoint Presentation about herself. (Time already accounted for in introduction.) The teacher will explain the requirements for the project, telling the students that this will be a chance to express themselves through color and clipart to tell more about their personality. The teacher will review the rubric.- 5 minutes AT THE COMPUTER: The teacher will guide the students step-by-step as they create the basic slides (step-by- step instructions listed below) 35 minutes
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE PRIOR TO THE COMPUTER: The students will view the teachers PowerPoint presentation about herself. (time already accounted for)
AT THE COMPUTER (the students will follow along at the computer as the teacher models)(time already accounted for): The students will log into the computer and open Microsoft PowerPoint. The students will learn to save their work by going to the Office Button, clicking Save As and in the file name box they will type All About Me- First Initial, Last Name, then click Save. The students will learn that the first slide is the default Title slide. The students will type in the first title box, All About Me. The students will click the Format tab to open the Format Ribbon. The student will click Shape Fill. From the dropdown menu, they will choose a color for the background of that textbox. They will do this for each slide. The students will then click on the subtitle box and type, By: and type their first and last name. The student will click Shape Fill. From the dropdown menu, they will choose a color for the background of that second textbox. They will do this for each slide. The student will click the Save icon to save their work. The students will go to the Home Ribbon and click New Slide. The students will title the new slide Where I was Born. In the textbox on this slide, the student will type: the day they were born, the date they were born, then hit Enter and type the city and state in which they were born. The students should then have two bulleted items. The student will insert color. The students then use prior knowledge to insert clipart of their choice to illustrate the slide. The student will go to the Insert Ribbon, chose ClipArt, and this will open the ClipArt task window. The student will search for an image relative to birthday or whichever state they were born. They will chose any image of their liking and insert it onto this slide. They will do this for each slide, but change the image depending on the subject matter. To size the image, the student will hover their mouse over the corner circle and click and drag the image to the appropriate size. To move the image, the student will hover their mouse over the box outline until they get cross arrows. Once they see these arrows, they will left click the mouse, and drag image anywhere on the slide they like. The student will save. The students will click New Slide. The students will then title the next slide, My Personality. In the textbox, the students will list five adjectives that describe them, hitting Enter after each one. They should then have five bulleted items on this slide. The student will insert color. The student will insert clip art. The student will save. The student will then click New Slide again. In the title box, the student will type My Family. The student will go to the text box, and click the icon in the textbox that says Insert Table. The student will select to enter two columns and three rows. In the first column, the student will list their family members. In the second column, the student will type their relationship (ex. Joe Brown: Father). If the student chooses to enter more than 3 family members, in the last cell of the table, they will click Tab, which will insert another row. The student will insert color. The student will insert clip art. The student will save. The student will then create another new slide by clicking New Slide on the Home Ribbon. In the title bar, they are to type Favorite Colors. In the text box, the student will list at least three colors, hitting Enter after each color. The student will insert color. The student will insert clip art. The student will save. The student will then click New Slide again, and type the words My Classes in the title box. In the text box, the student will click the Insert Table icon. The student will chose two columns and seven rows, and then click Ok. The students will type the name of the classes in the first row, and the names of their teachers for those classes in the second row. The student will insert color. The student will insert clip art. The student will save. The student will create a New Slide. The student will chose to either type Favorite Music or Favorite Movies. In the text box, the student will list at least three items that pertain to the category that they chose. They are welcome to list additional music or movie choices. The student will insert color. The student will insert clip art. The student will save. The student will click New Slide again. In the title box the student will type, My Favorite Thing About Art. In the text box the student will list a minimum of three things they like about art class. The student will insert color. The student will insert clip art. The student will save. The student will create their last New Slide. In the Title box on this slide the student will type, The End. In the text box the student will type appropriate closing words such as: Thats All Folks!, Thats All About Me, Thanks for Watching, etc. The student will insert color. The student will insert clip art. The student will do a final save of their finished work.
Closure (AFTER THE COMPUTER)(5 minutes): The students will return to their desk to complete their Think Sheet regarding their PowerPoint assignment. The teacher will explain that the students will be presenting their PowerPoints to the class the following day.
WHEN NOT AT THE COMPUTER: The students will view the teachers About Me Presentation and complete their Think Sheets.
