Questions for LO4

Visual Language
Describe and analyse the composition of your image.
For the composition for my final images I took inspiration from my research to make them follow and look the most
affective that they could. I wanted them to look as realistic and professional as possible, to do this I wanted them to be
presented as best as possible with all the correct information on them. For the composition I chose to do them both
landscape, with everything centred and using a thick boarder. I did all these things to make them as professional as
they could be and follow other examples of invitations and certificates.
Explain why you have used your selected colours. hat are the connotations of them!
The colours I have selected for my invitation and certificate are gold, cream/white and gold. I wanted to use the
colours back and gold because of the event they are for, The Henley Film wards. !ecause they are for a film awards
I wanted to make them as elegant as possible and also fit in with a theme and the colours most associated with
awards which is gold. I chose to use black as the main background colour as I wanted it to fit in with the theme, the
event is black tie and very formal therefore by using he colour black in a stylish and professional invitation they
assume what the dress code will be and what to expect. For the other main colour and the colour for the text I chose
gold, gold is an obvious choice to use as it adds glamour to the event. For the boarder it has a white background this
is to make more of a contrast between the information and the background but I chose a black background for the
main information because I wanted the gold to stand out more and be more eye"catching.
"udience
"udiences can be defined by their social group# gender# peer group and what $obs they do.
ho is the audience for your image! %think wider than just students)
The audience for mine ranges from families of the winners or people who are invited to older people who have an
interested in films and younger students who might have their work being shown or getting an awards. This is
something I wanted to achieve so that everyone would be interested in and want to be a part of, this is important
because they have to appeal to everyone from different ages and genders. There are many different audiences and
people that will be getting the invitation or certificate, for this reason I had to think of different styles that would suit a
range of people I needed the colours to attract everyone and be eye"catching, I needed them to interest different
social groups and genders.
&istorical and 'ultural 'ontext
here have you drawn inspiration from when creating your design!
I have taken inspiration from various sources when designing mine, however most of the inspiration came from higher
end film awards, looking at their designs and taking inspiration at the colours, layout and fonts they use. I also looked
at many other examples to get other ideas and see what other people and companies have done that make them
slightly uni#ue and interesting. From looking at these I got the idea for a more interesting and elaborate boarder and
what colours to use. $ooking at high end, ma%or televised film awards and the kind of style they use was very useful as
it gave me the inspiration and ideas from what they have done to a more professional standard.
(s there anything in particular that has been incorporated into your design!
&es, in my designs I have tried to incorporate the style of it to have a slight old fashioned but stylish theme. I want it to
be like this because I wanted them to have an olden day/rustic feel but also wanted to them to be modern and stylish
to attract every one of all ages. I mostly wanted them to be like this because I wanted them to be sophisticated and
professional so I wanted them to be as grown up and formal looking as possible.
)inished *roduct
Does your final product loo+ how you intended it to! (f not# why not!
'y final products for both the invite and certificate I believed look a lot like my initial designs. The only thing that
wasn(t identical was the pattern of the boarder however and am happier with how the boarder turned out more than
the original drawing, this was because it was hard to create a boarder exactly like my designs therefore I chose to go
with a different one which I believe is better. )ther than that all the text and layout were how I intended it to look like
and what my original ideas.
(s your final product fit for its purpose as a poster, invitation etc!
I think that my final product for both does fit in with the purpose for each. They both have all the correct and relevant
information for the events e.g. the time, venue and date. lso they both fit in with the theme and are attractive to the
target audience to encourage and invite them to the awards ceremony.
hat technical s+ills have you used to put your final product together!
The technical skills I have used to put my final products together were mainly used on *hotoshop. +ome of these
skills involved setting up the page to get it to the right si,e for the individual products. Then also I had to make the
boarder which meant making that the right si,e, then pasting in parts of it separately to fit it and connect together. I
had to do this because I wanted the boarder to fit in a boarder perfectly around the edge- therefore I used a separate
document in *hotoshop to get all four edges separately to then place in my actual document. .hich I could then
ad%ust and make them fit correctly. nother skill I used was getting the correct gold from the text to match the
boarder. To do this I used the ink catcher tool to select the colour from the colours in the boarder to then use the same
colour in the text.
hat do you li+e about the -loo+. of your final product!
.ith my final products I really like the look of the layout as they are both similar so fit in nicely together. I chose to do
the layout very similar for each, I did them both landscape and both with the text central to make the information easy
to read and understand. I chose to do them both landscape are from my research many other invites and certificates
look really nice and professional when they are landscape. I also wanted the layout to look like this so all the
information and text looked neat and respectable.
hat new things have you had to learn to ma+e this final product!
The new things and skills I had to learn and get to grips with was some of the skills used on *hotoshop. I had to learn
how to add different texts and edit them to how I wanted with different fonts, colours and lined up correctly to make
them all match and look effective. This will be very useful to me in the future as I now know the skills needed to create
an effect post, invitation or certificate and can use this information for future use.
*roduction process
&ow competent have you been in putting your final piece together!
I think that my ability I used to make both my final products was god because both the final products do look good, fit
in with the criteria and have all the relevant information on. I think I did this well because my ideas for my final
products were very similar to my first original ideas and plans for my products, therefore it was easier putting them
together because I already had a good idea of what I wanted them to look like.
&ow easy, difficult have you found creating images and ideas! hat could ma+e this easier!
I found that actually the creating of the design for my final products #uite easy as the hardest part was drawing a
pattern for the boarder to look like my designs. However my final boarder I actually used an image taken from a
website, therefor all I had to do was break it up and use parts of it to create my boarder. This became #uite hard
however the hardest part was thinking of the ideas but after some research that became easier as taking inspiration
from other people(s ideas made it easier to come up with some original designs.
Describe your time management over this pro$ect.
I think that my time management throughout this pro%ect has been #uite good. I had done some good research and
had some ideas from that of what I wanted my final products to look like. From this I was able to draw out six plans
and ideas of what I wanted them to look like, this made it easier later on because I knew exactly what I wanted each to
look like. Time management is very important within the media industry because it is a key skill as you have to meet
deadlines and get things done so that the next part of the creative process can happen.
