Course Descriptions:
Journalism
This is an elective course open to all high school students. Students become familiar
with the five Ws of journalism, gain experience in publishing, including desktop
computer applications, develop ability to interact appropriately with local
publications, and acquire awareness of governmental protections and regulations of
journalists.
Creative Writing
This course is an elective, open to all high school students. Students will develop
and demonstrate the ability to construct works in a variety of genres.

Course Objectives:
Journalism
o Students work will show ability to obtain information, classify the
types of information, and organize the information for effective
communication.
o Student writing shows appropriate use of the conventions of English
and journalistic style to address a wide audience of readers, in the
context of each writing.
o Students will produce appropriate articles for publication
Creative Writing
o Student work reflects a wide range of writing styles, which effectively
communicate to a wide range of audiences and are appropriate for a wide
range of media.
o Student will produce a writing project for publication.

guests, and in public while on field trips
