The following is a visual walkthrough for a typical ROTC RECON mission.

It will give you only a general understanding of how such a mission would look
like.
The squad/platoon will first move out of the AA across the LD (line of departure) and
report the crossing.
This report ensures that higher is kept informed of the squads movements.

Next, the squad will likely stop a pre-planned distance away from there AA and
conduct a SLLS (stop look listen smell) halt.
The squad does this with the intent of detecting anything out of the ordinary and
reports these detections (if any are detected) up the chain of command.

Next, the squad establishes an ORP (objective rally point) to do any last minute
PCCs/PCIs and to ensure members of the RECON teams understand what
intelligence is be searched for.

From here the Squad Leader will take only his LPOP/RP team and his RECON teams
(generally 2) and will leave the rest of the squad with a team leader in charge and a
solid contingency plan.
Once the members of the RP/LPOP (release point/listening post-observation post) are
in place the squad leader can direct his RECON team to move around the OBJ to
different vantage points.

If possible, the RECON teams will make a complete clover around the OBJ in order to
get different vantage points.
At each vantage point, the team will take a close look at the OBJ and write down
everything they see in order to give a complete report to the Squad Leader once the
RECON is accomplished.

Once the teams have collect as much intelligence as possible through multiple
vantage points (if possible) they will return to the RP/LPOP, gather the RP/LPOP team,
and return to the ORP.
At the ORP, the teams will consolidate the intelligence they collected on the OBJ and
give it to the Squad Leader who will not only send it to higher but will also
disseminate it out to his/her entire squad so that the information is known by more
than just the RECON team and the Squad Leader.
