Moodle Advanced: Learn Whats Coming this Summer!

In June of 2014, SSP Moodle's site will be upgraded from version 1.9 (which most of you are using
moodle.sspps.org) to version 2.4 (a small group of you are piloting mymoodle.sspps.org) and it will bring
significant improvements to your class pages in Moodle. This workshop is designed to familiarize current
Moodle users with the new course administration settings, activity and resource settings, the quiz
designer. Participants should be experienced with Moodle version 1.9 and have an existing course to
work on. Your class from version 1.9 over to version 2.4 as well. Conrad Anderson, room: Library

Moodle Advanced Collaboration Time

There will be no presentation made during this session, that will only be done in Session 1. This will be a
time to collaborate with other teachers on how to use the new Moodle site in the classroom and get
assistance on building your course pages. Conrad Anderson, room: Library BRING YOUR EARBUDS OR

Google Drive, Docs, & Sharing: Practical Classroom Applications

Google Drive allows teachers and students to create and share documents in an educational setting.
There are many other Google Drive features which can be leveraged to a teachers advantage. You will
learn strategies for the paperless classroom including: collaborative document creation and sharing,
collaborative folders for document distribution and retrieval, strategies for communication/feedback,
and enhancing Google Drive with add-on extensions and apps. Participants should come prepared to use
their SSP Google Apps account username & password. (For information about using Google for
assessment, please attend the Google Forms session). Lacey Rotier & Travis Wells, room: B251 BRING

Google Forms for Student Assessments and More!

Google Forms is a useful tool to help you send a survey, give students a quiz, or collect other
information in an easy, streamlined way. A Google form is automatically connected to a Google
spreadsheet which will allow you to analyze and create charts of your data. You will learn how to: create
forms for different purposes, manage forms and response data, and use data analysis tools (including
Flubaroo which will correct a quiz for you). Practice by creating your own--you could even bring an
existing quiz or test you want to make into a Form. Participants should come prepared with their SSP
Google Apps account username & password. Lacey Rotier & Travis Wells, room: B251 BRING YOUR

Screencasting

A flipped classroom is not just assigning a video to watch as homework. This class will help you create
videos and lessons to go with them. You will have time after instruction to work on making a video for
one of your classes.

You will learn how to:

record videos with your SMART Board, Screencast-o-matic, and iPad apps

create a well thought out video and follow up activity

upload your videos to your YouTube channel for storage (so come prepared with your Google Apps
account username & password)

embed the video in your Moodle page or link it in your teacher web page (whichever you use on a
daily basis)

Enhancing Math Instruction with Smart Boards

Take your math lessons to the next level using SMART Notebook features and tools. Learn to effectively
integrate research-based methods for increasing achievement, interactive visuals and web resources
into your lessons. We will have plenty of time to explore and modify existing lessons, so bring any
curriculum or standards that may help you develop lessons, save your work and sample files that you
can customize for your students. Prerequisite: Introductory SMART Board training and application of
SMART Notebook for at least three months in your classroom. This course is for any gr. 7-12 math or
special ed. teacher who teaches math.

Smart Board Intermediate

SMART Boards and the new SMART Notebook 11 program offer teachers and students an opportunity to
teach and learn in an interactive environment. After a review of basic tools, we will explore intermediate
tools such as themes, sounds and object manipulation. We will also spend time learning to create
videos for flipped classrooms. There will be time to ask questions and work on developing a lesson with
the instructor available for questions. This class is designed for teachers who have a SMART Board and
have learned and applied the introductory SMART Notebook tools with their students. Prerequisite:
