How it goes in Room 209

Leave the excuses at the door.
If you didnt do your homework, just admit it. Go to
homework club and accept the late marks.
If you dont understand the assignment, ask for
help.
If you didnt study for the test, accept the grade and
resolve to do better (with my help if necessary) next
time.
If you refuse to follow the rules, accept the
consequences.
This is NOT a democracy,
This is MY classroom;
and Im here for one reason, and one reason
only;
TO TEACH YOU
TO INSPIRE YOU
TO HELP YOU GROW

Ill do my part. The rest is up to you.
Expectations:
1) Attend all classes regularly, on time and prepared.
Arriving on time and coming regularly to class is a basic expectation for high school. Consistent
absences or lates will not be accepted as this interferes with a complete understanding of the
course. Students are advised to consult the attendance policy of the school found in the student
handbook. Students are expected to attend class with all required materials.
2) Complete assignments on time.
Due dates are posted on the whiteboard under each class section. Students are expected to
track due dates in their student handbook. 1 week notice will be given for tests or major
assignments.
3) Complete all unit tests.
There will be 1 major test and several quizzes per unit. Students are expected to complete all
tests through the year to demonstrate understanding of the course material. An unexcused
absence on a test day will result in a mark of zero on the missed test.
4) Do no plagiarize.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated. This includes any form of text used as ones own work (either
from the internet, a book or copying a fellow students work). Plagiarized work will not be
accepted and consequently will result in a mark of zero for the assignment in question.
Students are advised to consult the plagiarism policy of the school found in the student
handbook and on the schools website.
5) No outerwear, hats, hoods,iPods, mP3 players or cell phones
allowed in class.
Students are advised to consult the cell phone and outerwear policy of the school found in the
student handbook and online. Students caught with these items in the classroom will have them
taken from them.

Classroom Procedures:
1) Handing in Homework or Assignments
Science Department Homework Policy
1) You have chosen to take an academically challenging course. Therefore, you are
required to take the course seriously and be responsible for your assignments.
2) You will not be referred to homework club. You must make the choice to go on your
own.
3) Homework is due at the beginning of class. You are not allowed to complete your
assignment during class time.
4) If you have not completed your homework on time, you need to go to homework club to
finish it. If you pay back the time in homework club, no late marks will be deducted. The
assignment must be signed by a teacher/educational assistant in homework club to
prove you went.
5) If you do not go to homework club, there will be a 10% per day deduction off the total
score, up to 50% off the assignment.
6) No assignments will be accepted after the end of the unit.
7) But I have to work have a game. You know your schedule ahead of time and
therefore should know when you cannot stay and should have completed your
homework. If you cannot stay for homework club, you take the 10% deduction.
Practices dont count. You still must go to homework club. Coaches are aware of this.

2) Extra Help
Extra help is available over lunch hours and after school. Arrange with me beforehand, if you
know you are in need of extra help. Please dont wait until the day before a test or exam.
3) Catching up on Missed Work
When you miss a class, it is your responsibility to check the Weekly Work box for the any notes
or assignments you have missed. You must then check with a classmate to borrow notes you
have missed. If an assignment/lab has been missed, you must make up the time to receive the
marks for it. These can be made up on the students own time. Please make arrangements with
Mrs. Connor to make up assignments/labs.
4) Pay Up!
I expect all students to be prepared with all supplies they will need for that day. However, if
you happen to forget, you can buy your way out of it. You must pay 25 cents (into the Frog by
Mrs. Connors desk) if you need to borrow a pen (flower pens located by Mrs.Connors desk,
BORROW ONLY). There are no I.O.Us. Make some friends in the class and figure out who will
either lend you money or a pen.
ALL MONEY FROM THE PAY UP PROGRAM GOES TO KIDS HELP PHONE AT
THE END OF THE YEAR.
5) Washroom
One student is allowed out of the room at a time and must ask permission before leaving.
6) Textbooks
Textbooks will be used minimally in class. If you need to take a textbook home, you must sign
it out and sign it back in when you return it.
7) Quizzes
There will a daily mini quiz everyday. This will be posted on the board and students will be
required to copy down and answer the quiz in their provided half notebooks. These quizzes are
designed as review and are not worth marks. At the end of the week, there will be a quiz,
based off the mini quizzes of the week. These quizzes are worth marks and count towards your
mark.
