The beginner should not ill the least be disheartened parti,cl1larly by the di ... couragem, ent from his fellow brethren pr cfi ing the art. The first thing he should do, is to try the rules in the -hands of persons with known birth time. Having done so in at least some dozsns of cases, and having beanable to correctly estimate the bir'~h times ,already known, he should then proceed to examine the hands of eases where the time is unknown. . In the d"etermination of a correct horosc.ope it is essential that the astrologs r rest his opinion not upon one or two factors, but upon a series of factors which when properly put together give him a complete, or nearly a complete picture of the ative, It is futile for an astrologer to astempt to base his iudgment upon

As is well known that the t welv e signs of the

ZODIAC IN THE HAND

In the two hands we find the fingers are repre.sented hy the planets. In each hand the forefinger belongs toJ-upiter, the middle to Saturn" the third to the Sun, the fourth to Mercury and the thumb, particularly its first phalange, to Mars, The right hand thumb typifies the planet Mars and sign Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, known as the pioneer sign, and denotes the will-power, This zodiacal sign enables its native in hewing his way through difficulties and its ruler Mars is ever recognized a - the natural leader in active life. Mars also rule over the watery sign Scorpio" the incursion and conquest of which are found rather in the emotional a d mystic regions of Na ture and thu Scorpio, the mysterv solving sign, is 'Jhe sign of all others that finally terminates the mortal expression by leading the way through the portals of so-called death to the 111Y terious beyond ; therefore, the true ruler of the - sign Scorpio has been more correctly described as a

,-

complex or negative type of the planet Mars, and a

Mars a1,d Aries are ty-pified by the right thumb, the sign Scorpio is better represented by the left

thumb,

Let us consider the right hand in detaiL Fir t, the thumb is the representative of will and force typified -by the sign Aries with its ruler Mars, The sign Sa.gittarius belongs to the first finger under the rule of Jupit-er, while the second finger is under the rule of Aquarius and the planet Saturn. The third finger is the Leo finger with the Sun as its ruler, and the

83

fourth fiuger is under the sign Gemini with its ruler Mercury. (Fig. 7).

Now we will consider the left hand. To each finger is allotted what is in one sense the same ruler a in the corresponding finger of the right hand, though its expression is through the negative sign. In the lef· hand, therefore, the first finger is ruled by Jupi .er and the sizn Pisce ,and the middle finger by Saturn and Capricorn; the fourth finger typifies Mercury and the sign Virgo.. The third finger is here again ruled by the Sun but rather in a negative sense, and we nla~ consider this influence as a combination. of soli-lunar influence, Thumb, as. already stated" is ruled by Mars and the sign Scorpio.

o fingers are, however, allotted to Venus and to

Lefoon. The ign Libra i s represented by themount of Venus in the rig t hand al d the sign 'I'aurus, in he left h. d. Cancer is r spres ented by the mount of Moon in both hands, but particula.rly in the left.

But the palm also represents "he twelve signs of 1 e zodiac. According to the ancients, .Arie is located on the percussion side of the mount of l:~ercury, Taurus on the lower part of the me rnt of Sun and

In Fig. '7 Aries is indicated on the Plane of Mar.s and on the upper mount of Mars under Jupiter; Taurus, on the half part. of mcu nt of Venus towards the life line; Libra, O~3t. the other half of Venus mounttowards the base of the thumb and include the second phalange ofthethumb ; Capricorn, on the upper half of Saturn mount, and Aquarius 011 the 10 wer half over the Hearn line ;: Leo, on the Sun mount ; and Gemini on the mount of ·M ~1"I/'\.llry_just above the Heart line, and Virgo just below the Heart li~e andabove the Head lin~ and on the Health line. Scorpio is on the mount of Ma-rs on the peroussio n side, and Cancer is ont he 111 aunt of Moon. Sagittariu is shewn on the mount of Juplter, while Pisces is placed b:etween the Mount of Venus and the Mount afM Don a bove the wrist ..

In the flrst : finger, the first joint or phalange containing the .tip is. under Sagitbarius, the second phalange under Pisces and this third is under Cancer, The first phalange of the second finger is under Capricorn, the second is under Aquarius and the third is under Libra. The first phalange of the third fir gel' is under Leo, the second phalange, under Aries and the third under Taurus. The first phalange of the fourth finger is under Gemini, the second under Virgo and ·tl~e third is under Scorpio, : Also to each of these fingers is a ttri butad one of the seasons of the. y'ea.r., To the first finger, which is attributed to Jupiter, .~ pring is ascribed; the second finger represents winter, the third, summer, and t he fourth, autum.n.

The signs of the zodiac are divided into groups of

\.

ZODIAC IN THE HAND

qualities called CardinaL Fixed and COln1110n, and also

-

into groups, of elements, oaIleo, Fire, E~~rh_! Air and

Water. . The predominance of these qu!tlities and elements by these signs being occupied by maj:otity of planets, gives the key.note of the character a·nd destiny of the individual. Corresponding to the above qualities of the zodiacal signs we also finn in the hand Spatulate, Square and Conic finger . types giving the key-note of thp. charaoter and disposition; the predolllinance of the general divisions of the hand, oorresponding to the e1e111 ents of the zodiacal sign called the worlds, the Mental, Practical, Inspiraticnel and Emotional '; indicated by the flngers, for the mental world ,; the mounts under the fingers and on the pa lm above a line £1·0111 upper Mar: to lower Mars on the percussion, for the practical world; the part of the hand coverir g the mounts of Mat'S and the Plane of 'Mars, for tte inspirational world; and the palrn covering the mounts of Moon and Venus to the base of the palm, for theemotiona.l world.

Also, the sgns are divided into posrtive and

negative group ~-the first sign Aries being positive and the next sign Taurus negative, and so 011 with the rest of the signs. When ill ajol'ity of the planet occupy positive signs at the time of birth the lines a.nd marks al'e clearly marked 1110re in the right hand than in the Jeft ; and when lnajority of the planets occupy negative signs, the lines a.nd mark in t he l left hand are more clearly marked. The reason is obvious. The right hand is termed the hand of action and
