As this is group project, students will be expected collaborate with group mates in a classroom setting as well as
at a distance (home).

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
Grade 6: Standard 6: The Universe

tides of the earth.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
Students will demonstrate a progressive understanding of the phases of the moon and the effects those
phase have on the tides of Earth
Academic Language not addressed in IDT 3600.
This lesson is a continuation of TN Science Standard 6 and ISTE Standard 2.
We will continue to use our textbooks as well as various other technological resources and websites to
build up previous lessons.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for
those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not a part of
this particular lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction: I will integrate various technological and interactive resources to engage students in the
lesson
Procedures:
1. After class has been seated, a short introduction to the moons lunar phases and tides will be given.
(10 minutes)
2. After introduction has been given, students will be allowed to ask questions. (5 minutes)
3. Next the assignment will be explained in its entirety to the class. (10 minutes)
4. Class will then be split into groups for assignment (groups to be determined by teacher)(3 minutes)
5. Handouts will be passed out to groups. (2 minutes)
6. Next, individual tasks for the project will be assigned within the groups (group members will choose
tasks among themselves with supervision from teacher. (10 minutes)
7. Students will be given time to read over handout and what each the responsibility of each task is. (5
minutes)
8. Next there will be a short question and answer session. (10 minutes)
9. Homework assignments given and class dismissed. (5 minutes)
10. Day 2
11. Once class has been seated, short introduction to reiterate lesson and project will be given. (5
minutes)
12. After introduction, class will be separated into groups to work on group projects; this will include
presenting data to group mates and collaborating and creating Power Point presentations. (25
minutes)
13. Students will be alerted when there is 10 minutes left before time is up. (1 minute)
14. Group leader of each group will choose number to determine order of group presentations. (4
minutes)
15. Group presentations will begin. (15 minutes)
16. After group presentations have concluded, there will be a short class discussion of all projects
presented. (9 minutes)
17. Class will be dismissed. (1 minute)

Closure: Student groups will create short Power Points and present them to the class.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
Assessment evidence will be students group Power Point Presentations. A sample of what the
presentation should look like has been uploaded to the Drop Box.

MODIFICATIONS:

I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this
particular lesson.
