Invitation to become a Mentor at The Mirfield Free Grammar

At its most basic level, mentoring helps young people see that they are not
alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges.
Mentors provide their mentees with an experienced ear who is there to
support them through their school life.
At The MFG our mentors will act as positive role models who work with
students to:
Increase confidence, motivation, persistence and self-esteem
Raise aspirations
Improve organisation and study skills
Raise awareness of higher education opportunities and career
opportunities
As a mentor, we'll pair you with a student, perhaps interested in your field
of employment or career path, or who shares a similar background. You can
help by offering career guidance, academic advice, and wisdom gained from
your personal and professional experiences.
This provides students an opportunity to build personal relationships and
build their confidence as they move through their education at The MFG.
You will meet your mentee in a monthly breakfast meeting for 12 months.
The sessions will be held at school, where over coffee and bacon sandwiches,
where you can discuss the challenges your young person is facing and help
solve their problems.
The benefits of mentoring in education are widely reported, but most
importantly, it helps young people know they are not alone; it raises
aspirations and offers them practical help. Mentors can experience the
satisfaction of helping young people to develop and achieve their goals,
whilst gaining skills and experience which will contribute to their personal
development
If you would like to help, and can commit to monthly breakfast meetings
(scheduled for Fridays at 8.00am) from October, we would love to involve
you in our pilot programme.
We will be holding a breakfast meeting on FRIDAY 12 SEPTEMBER, at 8.00am,
to launch our Mentoring Project and we very much hope you will be able to
attend.
