Content Area: Physical Education Grade Level: 8th CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s): 1.3 Demonstrate basic offensive and defensive skills and strategies in team physical activities. 2.5 Diagram, explain, and justify offensive and defensive strategies in modied and team sports, games, and activities. 3.1 Assess the components of health-related physical tness (muscle strength muscle endurance, aerobic capacity, exibility, and body composition) by using a scientically based health-related physical tness assessment. 5.1 Abide by the decisions of the officials, accept the outcome of the game, and show appreciation toward participants. 5.2 Organize and work cooperatively with a group to achieve the goals of the group. Big Ideas: Learn to pass in order to manipulate the ball towards the distance you want it to travel, through the use of basic skills. Spreading out the field to create space and channels to pass the ball to your teammate. Closing the attackers down defensively while staying in one's own zones/ channel. Having the ability to recover the ball in the back and progress the ball to the midfield or forwards. Understand the rules of the game and what is allowed and not allowed. Unit Goals and Objectives: Student will understand the principles of soccer Student will be able to perform the basic skills in soccer Student will have a clear understanding of the rules and regulations in the game of soccer Unit Summary: In this unit the class will be proficient in basic soccer knowledge by the end of this course. This includes basic skills involved in the game, rules and regulations, a basic understanding of the principles of the game offensive and defensive. The class will begin with some basic soccer skills and then progress into more technical and tactical elements of the game. The result I am looking the students to obtain is a understanding of the game while increasing individual fitness levels. Assessment Plan: Entry-Level: Brainstorm: What are the critical steps/components to successfully passing, shooting and dribbling in soccer. Formative: Quiz: Key Terms and definitions in soccer Quick write: students will have 5 minutes to write down what they learned in the soccer game they watched the previous day.
Summative: Performance Test: Demonstrating a understanding of basic soccer skills. Essay: what they have learned during class. How they have been able to identify these skills, rules or plays when observing the game. Including a understanding of the history of soccer. Lesson 1 Student Learning Objective: Students will know the different terms used in the game of soccer. They will then be able to perform many of the basic skills needed. They will also know a little background information on the sport. They will understand the laws of the game. Acceptable Evidence: Students will be able to voice their opinion on many topics discussed throughout the lecture. They will then be able to practice some of the skills learned.
